The Final Day of G*Star is Upon us

Update: NHN released a G*Star compilation video :] Enjoy! (P.S. Thank you for alerting me to it, Cori!)

Hello, TERA Fans! In a few hours, attendees will be enjoying their final day of G-Star 2010. This week was full of interesting news, gorgeous screenshots and drool-worthy videos. To ensure you haven't missed anything from our long distance coverage, make sure you check out the G*Star compilation thread!

As we head into the last day of G*Star don't despair! The news isn't likely to stop for very long. On November 26th, (or 25th for most of the West) Blue Hole Studio will be hosting their final server stress-test in preparation for their OBT. If the stress test goes well, the company is likely to announce their OBT and launch schedules, and that'll be really exciting! Stay tuned to TERA Fans because we'll be translating anything that seems relevant.

From some Korean articles Kalsteine and I skimmed, the reception to TERA at G*Star 2010 has been nothing short of massive. We read that on the first day of the convention, they had to close off the TERA line after just an hour because they already had a queue of eager players large enough to fill the booth for the entire day. Press reviewers have been commenting on all of the game's changes very positively, praising its faster, smoother combat, varied and beautiful visuals, and its potential longevity from the sounds of future updates.

Soon, I'll be updating with screenshots and booth pictures (Including that famous panoramic screen!), so watch out for those! I leave you with what may be the most awesome swag ever.

TERA Focus Group Test 2 | Gameplay Feedback

Good evening, TERA Fans! Exciting news! Around an hour ago, CM Scapes posted one of three forthcoming articles about the feedback gathered from FGT2.

This particular compilation focuses on what testers thought about gameplay. Other articles are said to contain feedback about westernization and technology.

Some major points of this first article were...

  • Levels 1-11 were well received.
  • Levels 12+ needed improvement.
  • More equipment options per level are planned, featuring new visuals and more statistics.
  • Class balance is being worked on.
  • The most popular classes were warrior and sorcerer.
  • The most popular races were Castanic, Aman, High Elf, and Popori.
  • Party play will be greatly improved.

Check out the feedback compilation below!

TERA Focus Group Test 2
Postmortem: Gameplay

The overwhelming majority of players felt that levels 1 to 11 were well-balanced and provided a good introduction to TERA and its lore. However, feedback on levels 12 and onward was a lot more diverse. Some liked the pacing at those levels while others felt it needed improvement. We agree that there’s room to improve in this area and plan to add new quests in more centralized hubs.

Feedback regarding progression fell into four categories: equipment, items, skills, and gold acquisition. We asked testers whether they felt they received real and tangible rewards for their efforts, and feedback followed many of the same trends for each of the three categories. Gear was a hot topic: moving forward, TERA will feature more equipment items per level, new visuals for these items, and a wider assortment of item statistics. Gold seemed to be just about right, although testers noted that it was hard to tell for sure without a live, in-game economy.

The focus test results revealed that classes will need additional balancing in order to create distinct roles in parties while allowing solo play. In this early version of TERA, the most popular classes were warriors and sorcerers. Favorite races on the other hand varied widely, with the most popular being Aman, Castanic, High Elf, and Popori. The FGT2 game client limited the number of available race and class combinations, and testers indicated that they wanted more variety in this area. In future builds of TERA, your characters will enjoy more customization options, including additional race and class combinations.

Party play comments fell into three categories: incentives, bonuses, and finding a party. In one poll, 92% of testers experienced party play. Testers agreed that grouping and its social aspect are important elements of massively multiplayer online games. The focus test also confirmed that party play needs work; we’ll be making a number of improvements to the grouping system to make grouping more beneficial for players.

In the original article, the team thanks the testers for their time and assures the community that their valuable feedback will be considered carefully by TERA's developers. This is great news, I'm so proud we can all help shape our favorite game!

Changes to the Official F.A.Q?

Good evening, TERA Fans! In the midst of all the activity today, I decided to check the official F.A.Q. to see if any changes had been made to reflect the growth of the game. To my surprise, the F.A.Q. had actually received a few significant changes. The new F.A.Q. can be found below, I've bolded and underlined changes.

Quote

Q. How does TERA differ from other MMORPGs?

TERA will set a new standard in MMORPGs with its next-generation graphics, groundbreaking gameplay, and unique political system.
  • TERA's stunning graphics and visuals combine for a cinematic gameplay experience.
  • Players have a direct impact on the world, dictating the flow of the economy and maneuvering through the political system of their server.
  • TERA's tactical combat system gives players more control and constant involvement in the action! No more point-and-click or just cycling through a palette of spells and skills.
  • TERA will support game controllers at launch.

Q. How many characters and races in TERA and what are the main characters and classes?

TERA has six character races - Aman, Castanics, Baraka, High Elves, Humans and Popori - and eight classes. Each race will be able to play all classes.

Let's go over some of the changes!

  • "TERA will support game controlers at launch."

While I think this has been discussed before, this is one of the first times I've seen an official announcement regarding this. What do you all think about using game controllers in MMOs, specifically TERA? How do you think it will affect gameplay?

  • "Player classes include the Lancer, Warrior, Berserker, Sorcerer, Priest, Mystic, Slayer and Archer."

Mystic? I assume the mean Elementalist and that the name of the class has been changed! This is very interesting as it might give a new meaning to the class overall. A mystic certainly sounds more like a healer than an elementalist, what do you guys think?

  • "TERA is scheduled for [western] release in early 2011."

Eep. I know many of you will be unhappy with this development, but it really is not a bad thing! En Masse Entertainment is very likely is hoping to do the localization right. The game is huge and no one wants to see a rough job anyway! Let's try and keep positive about this.

So, the information is mixed! Some of it's good and some of it's not the best, but keep the quality of the game in mind! We're always suggesting that Bluehole Studio and En Masse Entertainment take the time to be sure the game is complete and given the new release date, I'm sure they're going to deliver.
