Amira: So hey, Brian! Once again, all the questions are straight from TERA Fans. We had lots of questions for you and we picked out a few. So for one, what in-game events are being planned for players to participate in?

Brian: That's a good question! So right now, our focus for in-game events is going to be mostly on trying to find those spots where people hit a wall because we're really focused on the journey to level 60. So, once the game's out, sometimes players find areas that are hard to get through and we want to focus our events around that. How we're going to do that I don't know. But we do plan on having them!

Amira: And will there also be holiday-type events?

Brian: Yeah, we are trying to have an events system. It's one of those things that's like every feature takes away development time. We want to have these but we may not have them available right at launch.

Amira: Will there be any non-combat, or combat pets in-game?

Brian: So, we have the Homonculus which is kind of a pet. It doesn't quite follow you right now but we're looking into ways to expand that as well.

Amira: And the Mystic pets; will those really be pets?

Brian: Well they're summons: they come out and last for only a short amount of time to help out. There's a healing one, there's a dps one, and there's like a tank one. But I wouldn't call Mystics a pet class. It's hard to explain-- they're a little bit different than you're used to, so you'll see.

Amira: Sam Kim once mentioned that the development team was considering adding more armor slots. Is there any information on that?

Brian: Yeah, we've added two more slots and we'll see them soon.

Amira: Are there plans to allow players to customize the look of their gear or spells at this point?

Brian: Not at this point but we're looking heavily into both the dying system and the ability to change gear models as well. So I'm not sure if any of that would make it in by launch, but it's definitely on our list of ideas.

Amira: Some guildmasters are very concerned about recruiting more guildmates than the maximum guild size in TERA will allow for. Is there any information on about how large guilds will be able to get at launch?

Brian: Y'know, that's a good question. Right now, I can't answer that but I would really like to get back to you on it because I think that's an important one.

UPDATE: Brian Knox let me know that the current guild size is 300 members by default. This is always subject to change.

Amira: On the topic of guilds, is there any more information on how extensive the overall guild system will be?

Brian: Well the guild system will really play into the battleground system, which we're not talking a lot about just yet. I think that's where you'll see the guild system really work. Since we're not faction based, guilds will become allies or rivals as well.

Amira: Some players are very concerned about westernization. Can you talk about what aspects of gameplay are being westernized?

Brian: All aspects are being evaluated. In our last focus group test, we had everybody answer a 120 point survey which was a lot of questions. What it did was allow us to hold up a transparency and compare where results are similar and different among players in the West and players in the East. We're able to identify those areas. There's a lot of stuff that lined up and in the feedback, there were a lot of things, particularly surrounding solo play and the leveling curve. And so, those were the two areas that players felt different about. Also, specific features have been added as well. The achievement system and the controller support are things that kind of originated in the west.

Amira: How will the lore of TERA be explained to players beyond quest text? Will there be cut-scenes at all?

Brian: Yeah, actually we have been adding cut-scenes. Hopefully they'll help tell the story in a little bit more of an epic fashion.

Amira: Are there any plans to have a designated Oceanic server available at launch?

Brian: Not at this time. But we're looking at the territory. We want to make sure that if we do it, we do it right.

Amira: Is there any information available on mounts at all?

Brian: There are mounts, and we're tweaking them. We're trying to make sure they're the right speeds right now. At this time, there will not be combat mounts.

Amira: Are there any plans to allow third party addons in-game?

Brian: Not at this time. We're actually doing what we can to minimize the UI as much as possible.

Amira: Finally: are you still re-evaluating the idea of allowing all races to be able to be all classes?

Brian: Right now, it looks like that's what going to happen but I can't really say for sure. That is what we're aiming for, though. In the version that we're playing off right now, actually, we're balancing the Human male, so that way we can balance that off the other races. It's a lot less development time to balance one and get it all right-- in terms of all the numbers-- and then we can balance things around that.

Would You Pay Extra Money for Pets in Aion 2.0?

Aion 2.0 will come to Europe and NA on September 7th. Yesterday, the official released a press release, focusing on the pets in the upcoming expansion. There will be decorative pets as well as functional pets. You'll have 100 slots for your pets, yes you can have up to 100 pets if you want to open a zoo. You can get pets from in-game merchants, NCStore, quests, item drops, or special promotional events.

Summary of the Enhancement Crystal System Discussion

Example of an enhancement crystal and the slots you can place them in.

Ello, TERA Fans! Today we have a new translation from the official site, courtesy of TERA Fans translators, Locien and Meiellink! This translation is the summary of a discussion about the enhancement crystal system in TERA.

Enhancement crystals are found all over the world in TERA. They contain small stat bonuses and may be socketed into some of your character's equipment.

Check out what the Korean community has suggested to improve this system, and let us know what improvements you'd make!

Good day, this is Lime.

First of all, we'd like to thank all of the participants who took part in the discussion about TERA's enhancement crystal system over the past two weeks. This system lets you socket crystals that enhance your character's abilities in your equipment!

We have summarized all of your valuable opinions about the enhancement crystal system. We hope this will serve as an opportunity for additional discussion.

What would you like to see in TERA's enhancement crystal system?

1. Improvement to combinations and grades
We learned that almost everyone wanted to see more specific enhancements given by enhancement crystals.
To achieve that, a great number of people suggested that you should be able to raise the grade of crystals by combining multiple crystals to create new ones.

2. Aesthetic effects
We were told that players want to see a change in the color and visual effect of the pieces of equipment that have special or valuable crystals attached.

3. Upgrade to the slot window in the equipment window
We received comments saying that players want to see an upgraded character info window(P hotkey) interface, to accommodate the addition of crystal slots for accessories, shoes and gloves.

4. Enhancement crystal storage
We also received suggestions regarding convenience. We found out that players want to see the addition of an enhancement crystal-only bank storage and inventory bag in order to make sorting and storage easier.

5. Et cetera
We received various miscellaneous suggestions such as the addition of creating of enhancement crystals and the addition of element endowing.

We'd once more like to thank all of our discussion's participants for their useful suggestions. We hope that you will participate in the upcoming 39th discussion.

Thank you very much.

Part II of Mr. Blue’s Client Change Summary

Good morning, TERA Fans! Today we have part II of Mr. Blue's address about changes being made to the Korean client based on feedback!

Though it's a little late, this is a great translation by Meiellink and Locien that we hope you'll find useful :D Of course, until our own western CMs tell us how these changes will effect our game version, keep in mind that we have no idea if we'll be seeing any or all of these changes.

Enjoy!

Q. The variety of equipment was lacking and it was hard to feel a difference between the different equipment slots. How will this be improved?

A. Among the things we plan on changing the most, items will be the biggest part.

First of all, we're going to divide equipment into four grades, make them more diverse and add more options which will make a noticeable impact in gameplay. We're also planning on making it so that you will be able to strengthen your equipment through a system which will give your equipment more latent effects. By frequently obtaining various equipment and strengthening them with crystals and synthesis according to your personal needs or liking we believe our aforementioned changes will make the equipment system more fun. Additionally, to make the acquisition of new items a bit more interesting we're adding two or so new equipment slots.

Q. Will the appearance of equipment be given more variation?

A. Since the development team has just been given more time to work on TERA, we're taking this opportunity to add new appearances to equipment and an option to change the color of it, thus strengthening the variety of looks in equipment. When this process is finalized we want everyone to be able to notice a difference when switching equipment.

So, compared to the third closed beta not only will there be a higher amount of equipment, their appearance will also change considerably.

Q. Even if you defeat named monsters (Special, named monsters), they pretty much drop the same items as regular monsters do. Do you plan on fixing this problem?

A. If you look at the answers to the aforementioned questions about items, some of this question should be answered already.

Since there weren't any grades and very few options in equipment during the third closed beta, the amount of different equipment dropping was also low. But in the next version of TERA if you hunt named monsters, you will be able to get rare high grade equipment with various different options from them. After finishing a difficult fight you should be able to acquire good items, therefore we are in the process of fine tuning the rewards of named monsters in hope that they will become more fun to hunt.

Q. Crafting was very difficult. Gathering material is also difficult, it takes a lot of time and the crafted items were not worth their time and effort.

A. Crafting is an important part of TERA's equipment system.
We're planning on making crafting more easily accessible to players, and make it so that the rewards will become better and better.

Additionally, we're going to make improvements such as random options being added to crafted items to making crafting more interesting.

Q. When buying items at the broker, it should be possible to buy an item even if the seller is offline.

A. In the third closed beta we excluded the ability to directly buy items intentionally, in order to test the haggling system. We tested the haggling system to see if players had any complaints, while implementing the ability to directly buy items. We plan on improving the haggling system to make it more convenient for high level players.

Q. The group recruiting bulletin boards were only found in villages and camps, which made it impossible to search for group members directly in a hunting area. Are you planning on adding additional methods to make this easier?

A. Group recruiting bulletin boards were split into single hunting zones, so you were only able to search for group members from the same region one you were in. To fix this problem we plan on integrating the group recruiting system into the system menu. From now on you will be able to search for group members without returning to a village or a camp, simply by using the system menu.

Q. Due to the large size of the world, traveling between hunting spots and villages was slow. Will you do anything to counter this problem?

A. As you progress in TERA, you will be able to start using high speed mounts at a certain level. Additionally, we have already implemented "Return Scrolls" which teleport you to the closest village, as well as "Town Return Scrolls" which teleport you to the closest town in order to make traveling faster and less problematic.

Q. The UI is awfully large, you can't adjust the position or the size which fills up the screen. Will it be possible to adjust it individually in the future?

A. As a lot of players have pointed this out we're planning on giving the UI a revamp. We will make it possible to change the size and position of the UI according to the player's taste.

Q. Very much content is shown in the chat window, conversation channels weren't properly differentiated, making it hard to read it.

A. We plan on not only changing the colors of the text in the chat window, but also strengthening the customization options for the chat window to make it easier to create chat windows with your own style. Especially by being able to click the name of a character in your window, showing the guild name, class, level as well as options to add them as friends, inviting them to your group or whispering them.

Q. For those of us who look forward to the endgame, what kind of things can we expect seeing?

A. When you reach the level cap your character won't gain any more levels, thus character growth stops. To make up for this you will be able to acquire strong gear which will not solely come from instanced dungeons or named monsters. TERA will feature TERA-specific gameplay aspects, and one of these will be the Political System which will let players form alliances fighting fiercely to become the rulers of the continents for honor and personal benefit. Detailed information about the Political System will be released at a later time.

I don't know if our proposals will satisfy you. Rest assured that the development team is listening to your ideas and issues that you've pointed out and are working on them to create a beautiful in-game world.

TERA is going forward. We're working very hard in order to make it worthwhile to all of you who believe in us and support us.

You asked, here are the answers!

Good Evening, TERA Fans! A few weeks ago, I asked you to give us your questions to ask the TERA team at GDC and tonight I have the answers! While many of these questions have been answered since that time in the mass Q&A's Scapes and Brother Magneto have bee doing on the official forums, some are certainly still valid questions.

Thanks so much to En Masse Entertainment's Brian Knox for his time! Enjoy!

Gameplay

1. Are there any plans to add more equipment slots, like capes or helmets?

We're taking feedback from the FGTs and Beta tests into consideration, and this is something that people have repeatedly requested. Watch for more information about this in the near future!

2. Will there be any way for players to customize the look of their armor?

Again, we've seen a good deal of feedback about this from tests. We'll be adding additional armor with more variety, and we'll get more specific about this in the future.

3. What can you tell us about the mount system?

The mount system is still under development, but we want to make it a milestone in your characters' progression. We want the mount to be fast and exciting for players, and we're working on the exact balance and speed increase right now.

4. What can you tell us about the political system?

The political system will shape each server's community in a new and unique way. We'll discuss this more as we approach launch.

5. Are pets (both combat and non-combat) being developed for TERA?

We can't really talk about pets yet, but we've got several options on the table.

6. Will there be large scale siege warfare in TERA? If so, what is the plan to optimize this content in terms of avoiding lag?

Right now our focus is on PvE content and character balance. We have battlegrounds for users to participate in PvP combat—and, of course, on the PvP servers, players will be able to participate in large-scale conflicts between opposing guilds.

7. Players were concerned by the strength of knockbacks in TERA. Are there any plans to make it so that players can get themselves out of a knockback status?

We've already added skills that jump players out of a knockback status. For example, warriors can spin up from being knocked down and cause damage to all enemies surrounding them as they do so!

8. Will quests follow a dynamic and interesting storyline? What can you tell us about the story of TERA?

TERA's main storyline is revealed as your character progresses through the game. As you take on quests and interact with NPCs, you learn more about the world's lore and experience deeper and deeper layers of the story. We'll discuss lore in more detail in the coming weeks, so keep an eye on our website!

9. When leveling, will players be able to choose between several different zones with quests and mobs for their level range?

Yes. This helps give players a choice in content, and also adds a high level of replay value.

10. Will there be flying mounts included at any time? (Not including the taxi service, flying mounts that players control!)

There are no plans for flying mounts at this time.

11. What can players expect from TERA's end-game content?

Tera's endgame will involve the full spectrum of things you expect from an MMO, including battling in dungeons with PvE instances; taking to the battlegrounds to fight for honor; working the economy with crafting, enchanting, and playing the market. In addition, players will be able to influence the history of each server by participating in the in-game political system. TERA also understands the importance of alternate characters, so you will see some goodies for the altaholics out there!

Misc.

1. Will TERA receive global updates? Will there be a delay across different versions of the game?

It is every developer's dream to have a global simultaneous release, which minimizes a ton of work in supporting different branches of code, but there's also the reality of localization time. We will work to minimize this delta as much as possible, because it benefits everyone.

2. Will TERA support add-ons?

Right now our focus is not on UI but on the action in the middle of the screen. We're looking into ways of supporting fan contributions to TERA, but we haven't decided on anything concrete yet.

3. What measures will En Masse Entertainment take against players using third-party programs and buying/selling in-game currency?

We believe that security is an essential aspect of any successful game, and equally as important as game balance or the combat system.
We have a ton of things planned to help us stay ahead of the criminals looking to ruin the game experience, but we recognize that it will be an ongoing fight.

4. Are there any plans to include a specifically-tagged roleplaying server at launch?

A roleplaying server is something we'll consider, but hopefully players will take it upon themselves to roleplay their characters, regardless. 

5. Will TERA launch with an Oceanic server?

This is something we'll consider closer to launch.

6. Will the NA and EU servers be released at the same time?
This is our current plan, yes.

7. Will TERA release with 24-7 in-game customer support?

We will have customer service staff available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

8. How many betas are planned for the West? How will beta keys be made available?

There will be a few rounds of Beta tests planned for the West on various scales. We'll let the community know about availability of Beta keys when we're a little closer to starting them. Our fans will definitely be the first people we think of when we're handing out our Beta keys!

9. Can you explain what the exact difference between PvP and PvE servers will be in TERA?

PvP servers will allow for open world PvP; when you're out in the field, you're at risk. PvE servers limit that risk to consensual activities like duels, battlegrounds, and some other neat features we're working on. (Those consensual activities are available on PvP servers, too.)
