TERA Japan Closed Beta Schedule Announced

Hey, TERA Fans! It's been a long time since we've had major TERA news, hasn't it? I think that will all be changing as the E3 Expo rolls around next month from June 7th-9th; it seems to me we'll get some sort of important announcement there!

I'll be at the show and I'll see TERA at both its Atari and En Masse Entertainment booths so as not to miss anything. As the show draws nearer I'll also be taking questions from the community for an interview with the EME team :) So, exciting times ahead, have no fear!

Greetings TERA fans!

They say March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb. In TERA, it comes in like a pigling and goes out like a noruk.

March is also the month we're going to invite our community to experience firsthand the current state of TERA, and to track our hard work in the coming months as we prepare the game for its North American launch. There's a lot of work for us to do, but that doesn't mean we can't find some time to thank you guys and let you see a little slice of TERA.

We've selected our former Focus Group Testers in good standing and a large number of additional community members who have distinguished themselves over the last year by making contributions to the TERA community (and who have filled out our testing application). On Friday, March 25, these people will receive invitations to the Community Play Event. At that time they'll gain access to a private area of our forums where they can discuss their experiences, interact with our staff, and give feedback about TERA.

So if you're a dedicated TERA fan, you'll want to keep the week of March 28–April 3 open for discussing the event, forming parties and guilds, getting familiar with our special contests for CPE participants, and preparing yourself to enter the world of TERA. Our game server will be open from April 2–April 3, so keep your social calendars free that weekend. You'll get to experience TERA with your fellow fans and more than a few members of the En Masse team!

Good luck, and thank you for your feedback and support of TERA!

[Translation] TERA’s Demo Will Feature a Super Large Raid Boss!

Update: Inven.co.kr released footage of the group demo. Check it out below or on youtube!

Hi there TERA Fans! We've translated another article from game.chosun.com about the TERA press conference held this past Monday. This article details the features of both of TERA's G*Star demos, the party demo and the solo demo.

Check it out :D

On November 18th, TERA's G*Star 2010 booth will attempt to convey the glory of TERA to interested new players.

Two types of demos will be available. One of them will be a party play demo where players will be able to group with BHS developers and experience group combat. There will also be a solo demo where players will be free to explore any area available in the demo.

In the party demo, participants will be able to play as a Warrior, Berserker, Sorcerer, Archer or Mystic and the developers will take on the roles of Lancer and Priest. Once all the roles are filled, the party will head off to the demo dungeon and experience TERA's party play by fighting huge monsters.

*Group Demo

Video of the Group Demo from Inven.co.kr.

1. Learning game controls & defeating normal monsters.

When they first enter the instance, the party will see wooden practice dummies. The dummies are not harmful and are there for players to practice TERA's controls and familiarize themselves with their chosen classes.

Posted Image

^ Using skills on wooden practice dummies.

Players will be able to see three large monsters standing behind the wooden dummies and once everyone understands their classes, it is time to move on to the big guys. The pack of monsters go down fairly easily if all party members work together focus fire them down.

Posted Image
^ Taking down normal monsters.

Once these monsters are defeated, the party will move on to fight a medium sized boss.

2. Medium Boss Battle

Posted Image
^ These elite monsters are stronger than normal monsters.

Once the party defeats three elite monsters, they'll approach the medium boss, <Yal the Retributioner>. Because they're larger than regular monsters, the medium bosses have larger area of effect attacks.

Posted Image
^ The medium sized boss, Yal the Retributioner.

The Lancer will constantly be working to hold the boss's attention, but players will still be able to be hit by area of effect attacks if they're not careful. Even if attacking the boss from behind, players will still have to watch the boss's behavior to ensure they are not hit. When the boss is about to use a powerful skill, its eye shines red.

Posted Image
^ When its eye flashes red it means the boss is preparing to use a skill.

Posted Image
^ The boss's huge cleave attack.

For melee classes like Warriors and Berserkers, zooming the camera out all the way will help get a better view of the boss's eye.

Posted Image
^ Yal the Retributioner is down.

Once Yal the Retributioner is killed, your party will be able to move to the next room. When you use an object called the "Crystal of Corruption", your party will be transported to the door to the final boss and a cutscene will begin.

3. The Final Boss

The final boss of the G*Star demo is called the <Master of Corruption> and it is huge. The Master of Corruption uses unique skills like summoning a large sword and dropping it or summoning minions.

Posted Image
^ Awesome cut scene featuring the final boss's entrance.

Posted Image
^ A comparison between the size of a character and the boss.

Posted Image
^ Summoning a large sword and dropping it.

Posted Image
^ The summoned minions are easily dispelled with AoE attacks.

The demo ends with the defeat of the Master of Corruption.

Posted Image

*Solo Demo

In the solo demo, players will be able to choose a characters that is level 35, 40 or 45. Players will then be able to play in azone corresponding to their chosen level. There are many monsters out in the field and in towns they can get quests from NPCs.

Posted Image
^ The level 45 zone is called "Plateau of the Tyrant" and the zone is making it's debut at G*Star 2010.

Posted Image
^ The level 40 zone is called the "City of Forgotten Giants".

In other news, TERA will hold their server stress text between November 26th to 29th. You can learn more about the stress test on TERA's homepage (tera.hangame.com).

Summary of the Enhancement Crystal System Discussion

Example of an enhancement crystal and the slots you can place them in.

Ello, TERA Fans! Today we have a new translation from the official site, courtesy of TERA Fans translators, Locien and Meiellink! This translation is the summary of a discussion about the enhancement crystal system in TERA.

Enhancement crystals are found all over the world in TERA. They contain small stat bonuses and may be socketed into some of your character's equipment.

Check out what the Korean community has suggested to improve this system, and let us know what improvements you'd make!

Good day, this is Lime.

First of all, we'd like to thank all of the participants who took part in the discussion about TERA's enhancement crystal system over the past two weeks. This system lets you socket crystals that enhance your character's abilities in your equipment!

We have summarized all of your valuable opinions about the enhancement crystal system. We hope this will serve as an opportunity for additional discussion.

What would you like to see in TERA's enhancement crystal system?

1. Improvement to combinations and grades
We learned that almost everyone wanted to see more specific enhancements given by enhancement crystals.
To achieve that, a great number of people suggested that you should be able to raise the grade of crystals by combining multiple crystals to create new ones.

2. Aesthetic effects
We were told that players want to see a change in the color and visual effect of the pieces of equipment that have special or valuable crystals attached.

3. Upgrade to the slot window in the equipment window
We received comments saying that players want to see an upgraded character info window(P hotkey) interface, to accommodate the addition of crystal slots for accessories, shoes and gloves.

4. Enhancement crystal storage
We also received suggestions regarding convenience. We found out that players want to see the addition of an enhancement crystal-only bank storage and inventory bag in order to make sorting and storage easier.

5. Et cetera
We received various miscellaneous suggestions such as the addition of creating of enhancement crystals and the addition of element endowing.

We'd once more like to thank all of our discussion's participants for their useful suggestions. We hope that you will participate in the upcoming 39th discussion.

Thank you very much.

Summary of Group Duel Discussion

Good Morning, TERA Fans! Thanks to our diligent translators, Meiellink and Locien, we have a new translation from the official site for you today!

Posted around a week ago, this article was a summary of a discussion the Korean CMs had with the Korean community about TERA's Group Duel system.

Let us know, TERA Fans, what would you like to see in a Group Duel system? Enjoy :D

Good day, this is Lime.

First of all we'd like to thank all of you who participated in the discussion regarding group duels during the past two weeks.

The participants of the discussion gave us great feedback on how to make the Group Duel system a fun part of the game, no matter where or when you want to participate in a duel. We've summarized the most interesting suggestions for you.

What do you want to see in TERA's Group Duel system?

1. Bet amount restriction and receiving bonuses
We have been told that being able to set a lower limit for the amount of money that participants can bet in group duels and adding bonuses to the winning team will increase the incentive to participate.

2. Setting restrictions on the battle area and the length of the battle
In the current Group Duel system there are several points that have been pointed out as disappointing.
We're adding options to restrict the battle area and to change the time limit to change some of them.

3. Addition of different battle modes
We've received word that players want to see various battle modes in the group duel system. We were also told that in order to be more fun, various battle items should temporarily spawn during group duels.

4. Increasing the fun of spectating
You told us that it would be fun if duel spectators were not only be able to view the duel from a distance, but also be able to place bets on contestants between each other.

5. Addition of a balancing system
We received word that to make for a fair fight, it would be good if participants could use a balancing system when both parts agree to it, which would balance out the two teams for a fair fight.

Your passionate comments have definitely reached our development team. We're very much looking forward to the day when we can allow everyone to experience the world of TERA.

We would like to thank all of the participants of the past discussion and ask for your cooperation in the 35th upcoming discussion about our website's functionality.

Thank you very much.

Thank you for your interest in TERA! This application enters your name and information into our testing database for possible entry into future tests. Participants and applicants of previous tests will need to reapply to be added to our new database.

Please consider:

• Your application and data is linked to your TERA-Online.com account email and forum handle. Please use the email and forum handle you use on the official TERA website.

• If you change your email address you do not have to reapply. This database will be linked to your most updated profile.

A Community Address from Korean CM Mr. Blue!

Back on March 18th, Bluehole Studio's Mr.Blue posted a short, post beta letter to the community. While there's not a ton of new information within it, it's great to see how active CMs are in both Korean and the West. It shows us that we should expect similar interest from our own CMs during our beta period!

Thanks very much to Meiellink and Locien for the translation, as always! Enjoy!

Good day, this is Mr. Blue.

I always want to talk to all of you about everything, but when it comes to writing a letter, I'm not sure how to begin.

It's been about a week since the third closed beta ended. With the help of all of the participants we managed to pull off the test in 10 days. This test has left us with more valuable information and lessons than any test we've previously held.

As we're speaking, the Bluehole family is going through your responses to our surveys which tens of thousands of people participated in.

We're going through everything from major issues to small issues as we don't want to overlook any of your advice. We're very sorry to say that even though we wanted to announce the results right now we need to study them a bit more first.

In retrospect, it seems like the beta period was a bit too short for us to objectively observe how much progress we as a development team had made. However, we still believe that we reached a turning point.

We're very grateful for all of your suggestions and complaints. The development team is looking back at our original vision and working harder than ever before. It will take a bit longer, but don't despair. We will be back with the game we're envisioning TERA to become.

Thanks to your support TERA is moving forward. We hope you'll stay with us until the day we can invite everyone to play TERA.

Third Korean Beta Dates Disclosed!

Posted Image

Good evening, TERA Fans! Thanks to a tip from Locien, we've learned that the dates for the third Korean Closed Beta have been announced! His original post can be found below.

Quote

Ladies and gentlemen, the third Korean closed beta has finally been announced on the official website. It's been long since something happened but I'm sure the wait has been worth it :)

The test will be held during 10 days, from 2/26(Friday) to 3/7(Sunday). The test will include a whooping 20,000 participants chosen from applications and people that have contributed greatly during discussions on the bulletin boards.

Personally I can't wait for the beta to start, and due to the large amount of participants and the long test period I'm sure we'll be getting loads and loads of videos to look at. I can't say for sure, but the previous two betas all had their respective teaser trailers and hopefully we'll be seeing one for the third one too in a couple of days :)

Of course this probably also means that the next focus group test in the US should be closer than before.

Cross your fingers that we'll get to play the game soon again, I sure will :]

So, the test will be ten days long, from February 26th to March 7. It will include 20,000 participants and one of our very own staff members will be there!

This is very exciting news! Hope you're all having a nice evening, and to all the Americans celebrating Mardi Gras, "Laissez les bon temps roulez!"

Here's some absolutely awesome actual ingame footage from the third closed beta demonstrating a bunch of new skills. It seems like they increased the pace of the game a bit after receiving such suggestions in the second closed beta and I think it's a welcomed change ^^

There's also a couple of other features demonstrated in the video but unfortunately I don't speak Korean so I have no idea what they're saying.

Either way it's an interesting video regardless of whether you know Korean or not.

There's also another video with some pretty stunning ingame footage in the beginning and at the end it shows male Castanic and female Human customization. The middle of it is a slideshow with pictures and again I don't know Korean so I have no idea what they're saying :(

Here's a couple of screenshots.
