[G*Star] Lancer Gameplay

This is the Lancer G*Star gameplay footage thread! Please PM me with any videos you may find!

Inven.co.kr has uploaded bideo of a female High Elf Lancer. In this video, the Lancer charges and grips her enemies. At about 1:45 in the video, a lion crest pops up in the upper right corner of the middle of the screen; this is a glyph activating! Also, watch the monsters-- they do some pretty nifty things like running off and throwing bombs.

[Translation] TERA’s Demo Will Feature a Super Large Raid Boss!

Update: Inven.co.kr released footage of the group demo. Check it out below or on youtube!

Hi there TERA Fans! We've translated another article from game.chosun.com about the TERA press conference held this past Monday. This article details the features of both of TERA's G*Star demos, the party demo and the solo demo.

Check it out :D

On November 18th, TERA's G*Star 2010 booth will attempt to convey the glory of TERA to interested new players.

Two types of demos will be available. One of them will be a party play demo where players will be able to group with BHS developers and experience group combat. There will also be a solo demo where players will be free to explore any area available in the demo.

In the party demo, participants will be able to play as a Warrior, Berserker, Sorcerer, Archer or Mystic and the developers will take on the roles of Lancer and Priest. Once all the roles are filled, the party will head off to the demo dungeon and experience TERA's party play by fighting huge monsters.

*Group Demo

Video of the Group Demo from Inven.co.kr.

1. Learning game controls & defeating normal monsters.

When they first enter the instance, the party will see wooden practice dummies. The dummies are not harmful and are there for players to practice TERA's controls and familiarize themselves with their chosen classes.

Posted Image

^ Using skills on wooden practice dummies.

Players will be able to see three large monsters standing behind the wooden dummies and once everyone understands their classes, it is time to move on to the big guys. The pack of monsters go down fairly easily if all party members work together focus fire them down.

Posted Image
^ Taking down normal monsters.

Once these monsters are defeated, the party will move on to fight a medium sized boss.

2. Medium Boss Battle

Posted Image
^ These elite monsters are stronger than normal monsters.

Once the party defeats three elite monsters, they'll approach the medium boss, <Yal the Retributioner>. Because they're larger than regular monsters, the medium bosses have larger area of effect attacks.

Posted Image
^ The medium sized boss, Yal the Retributioner.

The Lancer will constantly be working to hold the boss's attention, but players will still be able to be hit by area of effect attacks if they're not careful. Even if attacking the boss from behind, players will still have to watch the boss's behavior to ensure they are not hit. When the boss is about to use a powerful skill, its eye shines red.

Posted Image
^ When its eye flashes red it means the boss is preparing to use a skill.

Posted Image
^ The boss's huge cleave attack.

For melee classes like Warriors and Berserkers, zooming the camera out all the way will help get a better view of the boss's eye.

Posted Image
^ Yal the Retributioner is down.

Once Yal the Retributioner is killed, your party will be able to move to the next room. When you use an object called the "Crystal of Corruption", your party will be transported to the door to the final boss and a cutscene will begin.

3. The Final Boss

The final boss of the G*Star demo is called the <Master of Corruption> and it is huge. The Master of Corruption uses unique skills like summoning a large sword and dropping it or summoning minions.

Posted Image
^ Awesome cut scene featuring the final boss's entrance.

Posted Image
^ A comparison between the size of a character and the boss.

Posted Image
^ Summoning a large sword and dropping it.

Posted Image
^ The summoned minions are easily dispelled with AoE attacks.

The demo ends with the defeat of the Master of Corruption.

Posted Image

*Solo Demo

In the solo demo, players will be able to choose a characters that is level 35, 40 or 45. Players will then be able to play in azone corresponding to their chosen level. There are many monsters out in the field and in towns they can get quests from NPCs.

Posted Image
^ The level 45 zone is called "Plateau of the Tyrant" and the zone is making it's debut at G*Star 2010.

Posted Image
^ The level 40 zone is called the "City of Forgotten Giants".

In other news, TERA will hold their server stress text between November 26th to 29th. You can learn more about the stress test on TERA's homepage (tera.hangame.com).

Updated UI

Aion 2.1 Hits PTS Today, Live Server on November 17th

Aion 2.1 not only increases item drop, but also lowers the difficulty of some dungeons. for example it reduces the level requirement to enter the Udas Temple and Lower Udas Temple from LV 52 to LV 51. Besides, you don't have to complete an entry quest anymore. On the other hand, the update decreases the number of monsters spawning in the Udas Temple and Lower Udas Temple, and also decreases their Max HP.

The harvest season has descended upon the lands of Arun and Shara. Deciduous trees have shed their leaves, spreading a blanket of copper and crimson. Daylight grows short and winter’s cold looms. The people of this world can be found in the fields and farmlands, stocking their storehouses with the year’s crops to sustain them through the harsh months to come. It is when the harvest ends that the recipe battle begins…

Welcome to November, TERA fans! We here at En Masse Entertainment are celebrating the season of plenty with our third contest in which we challenge you to create the most sumptuous and innovative (or at least appetizing and edible) recipes using a selection of potential "ingredients" (read: monsters) found in-game. Your true artistic creations must be geared toward one of TERA's six races, each with their own food preference. The entries will be judged by the members of our writing team who serve as "specialists" for each race.

Arun Chef: Recipe Battle

Using a combination of in-game ingredients and real-world cooking concepts, produce a recipe designed to fit the palette of one of TERA’s six races. The ingredients and food types (and linked pictures to match the unusual ones) include:

Red Meat
- Bear: Tough, rich.
- Cromos: Lean, dark.
- Hyena: Tender, dark.
- Argass: Gamey, tender.

White Meat
- Boar: Tough, gamey.
- Spider: Stringy, gooey.
- Pigling: Tender.
- Manticore: Rich, sweet.

Plant
- Ghilliedhu: Earthy, doubles as Seasoning.
- Cloud Mushroom: Tasty, doubles as Seasoning.
- Toruan Fruit: Nutritious, starchy, potato-like.

Seasoning
- Basilisk: Spicy, toxic in large amounts.
- Basilisk Egg: Large, rich.
- Unicorn: Savory, luxurious.
- Khamala Flower: Sweet, toxic in large amounts.
- Galicho: Pale skin, pungent aroma, hated by vampirs, garlic-like.
- Hazevine Blossom: Nutritious, medicinal.

The six races of TERA have food type preferences you will want to match to your recipe (all six races like seasonings, however):

- Aman, Castanic: Red Meat or White Meat
- High Elf, Popori, Human: Omnivore
- Baraka: Plant

Contest: Arun Chef: Recipe Battle

Instructions: Write a recipe using the available ingredients listed above for one of the six races of TERA and post it in this forum thread. We invite you to use all parts of the buffalo, so to speak, when utilizing the ingredients. You can discuss the contest in this thread. When posting your entry, please begin your post with the words "CONTEST ENTRY" in bold so we can find them easily. You may submit multiple entries in this contest.

Prizes: One grand prize winner will receive one TERA shirt and one TERA poster, and four invitations to TERA's next testing phase. Three runner-ups will each receive one TERA shirt, one TERA poster, and one invitation to TERA's next testing phase.

Duration: Starts Tuesday, November 2nd and ends Thursday, December 2nd at 12:01 am Pacific time.

The ingredients are prepared, the stage is set, without further ado: ALLEZ CUISINE!

[Translation] Updates to TERA’s Items

Hello, TERA Fans :D No I haven't forsaken you, I'd never do that <3 I am really sorry for my disappearance though-- you can blame blizzcon! I was over in California doing coverage for MMO-Champion and a little partying too. ;D

Anyway! Better late than never, today I have Kalsteine's translation of a new Korean article that popped up late last week. The article's got lots of new and important information, including updates Blue Hole Studio has made to armor and the introduction of a new item enhancement system.

Check it out below and let us know what you think!

Posted Image

Hello! Mr. Blue here.

Ever since the third closed beta ended, I'm sure you have all been hungry for new information. There was some news about new skills and enhancement crystals but today we've got even more news! We'd love to hear your feedback on these features.

Changing/Adding Items

One thing we noticed during CBT3 was that there was a limited variety of items. While leveling up and attaining better items, players felt that they wanted to look unique. To satisfy everyone, we thought we really needed a huge variety of items, not just items that are stronger, but also items of different styles. We increased both the quantity and quality of items.

Posted Image

These are just a few of the items you'll have the freedom to use around early-mid game. We encourage people to level higher and see our huge selection of items.

Increase in Item Quantity

One of the most common complaints during CBT3 was that there wasn't enough items to attain during leveling. Due to that there wasn't a very big difference between characters of the same level range. Even after killing elite monsters players were unable to acquire new equipment and that came off as a huge let down. These issues prompted us to change and add more items for players to acquire.

We have added a number of different weapons and items to the game since CBT3. We've also added amulets, crystal infusion (?) and stat bonuses. Equipment can be acquired through questing, monster drops, crafting and other methods.

Posted Image

Armors now exist with different looks and colors.

Do you recall the final bosses of the instanced dungeons and open world elite areas? Now you can acquire items named after them once you've defeated them. You can also acquire tokens which you can use to buy equipment with from doing instance related quests or clearing an instance.

Posted Image

Equipment named after monsters. Tradon's Dual Sword(Left), Ranork the Giant's Dual Sword(Right).

Better Item Quality

1. Variety of Ranks

We also implemented a system of item ranks. Equipment will now be ranked either as normal quality, high (magic?) quality, rare quality or legendary quality. Their corresponding colors are white, green, blue and orange.

Posted Image
Differently ranked items.

2. Different stats for each different item rank.

Ranks are not only there to show which is better than the other. If an equipment is ranked magic or above they will have extra stats. Magic items will include one extra stat, rare items will have 2 and legendary items will have three.

Also items only acquired by instanced dungeon bosses also come with bonus stats, so go venture out in the World of TERA to find out more. Other than equipment acquired from quests, ranked items with stat bonuses will have different kinds of stats, even if the item is named the same. This will give more variety even if everyone has the same items.

Posted Image

The exact same type of weapon can have different stat bonuses.

3. Fusion Enchantment

TERA's equipment can be enchanted through a system called Fusion Enchantment. No matter where you are, you can use the Fusion Enchantment UI and use materials to enchant your equipment. To fuse one piece of equipment with another, they do not have to be the exact same type of equipment as the one you are trying to enchant, they just need to be the same rank. The piece of equipment can even be an item for a different class. (This information may be slightly inaccurate, but that's what it seems to sound like they're saying from the literal translation.)

Posted Image

The piece of equipment in the middle is the one being enchanted and the two on either side act as materials.

Posted Image

Some options that are attainable through Fusion Enchantment.

Fusion Enchantment can raise basic stats like defense and it can also add bonus stats that become available when certain requirements are met. (Kind of like Set item bonuses except this one is through reaching certain enchantment goal. You can see +3, +6, and +9) Greyed out options are options that you cannot currently benefit from due to item lacking the requirement. Having a + on weapons can be reached through enchantment and some of them require you to enchant as much as 9 times for some bonuses. Also these bonuses are completely random, so it is hard to foresee what your future bonuses will be.

4. Other changes

We've changed many things other things since CBT3. We are working to make crafting a bit more accessible, adding more accessories, adding items like bombs you can throw at enemies, different graphic effects that can be achieved through Fusion Enchantment, and more equipment variation. We are sorry we couldn't reveal them in more detail in this report and we hope you will find out more when you explore the world of TERA!

"Thank you for reading!"

Sorry for the long wait for more information.

Sincerely, Mr. Blue

Enhancement Crystal System Explained on the Korean Site

Update 2: Yesterday, Scapes on the official forums posted a thread with an official translation of this article. Of note are the westernized names of the enhancement crystals and the explanation of why the class crystals were chosen. I'll be adding those to the article :]

Update: Thanks to Bygeorge, we now have the developer reccomended crystals for each class!

Today a new article was posted on the Official Korean site detailing the basics of TERA's enhancement crystal system. TERA Fans member, Bygeorge, was nice enough to do a quick translation for us! Check it out! :D

Basic Enhancement Crystal Guide

Overview
Enhancement Crystals can be attached to weapons and armor. They allow you to customize your playstyle. There is a chance they can be destroyed when you die, or when you attempt to remove the crystals.

Types of Crystals
Crystals can either be attached to weapons or armor. There are several levels of crystals, and higher level crystals have greater effects.

(then it goes on to list a couple of general crystals. I will just list all of the crystals I knew of before this article instead, using variables for values)

  • Increase max HP by X
  • Increase max MP by X
  • Gain X HP every 5 seconds
  • Gain X MP every 5 seconds
  • X% chance to gain Y HP whenever you hit an enemy
  • X% chance to gain Y MP whenever you are hit by an enemy
  • Increase all resistances by X
  • Increase defense by X
  • Increase attack by X
  • Run speed while not in combat increases by X

Condition Related Crystals
Some enhancement crystals only take effect under certain conditions.
  • Knockdown - these crystals only take effect when attacking an enemy who is knocked down.
  • Rear Attack - Only take effect when attacking or being attacked by an enemy from behind.
  • Enrage - These take effect when attacking or being attacked by a monster which is in an enraged state. When enraged, mobs will have increased attack and movement speed.

Monster Size Related Crystals
Monsters in Tera can be broken up into groups based upon their size. Certain crystals only effect monsters of specific sizes. Depending on what type of mobs you are fighting, you can choose crystals which will have the greatest effect.

Small Monsters
Posted Image Posted ImageDomineering Rhomb - Increases damage done to small monsters

Medium Monsters
Posted ImageDauntless Cabochon - When attacked by medium monsters you have a chance to generate a protective shield.
Posted ImageAcrimonious Cabochon - Increases attack power when attacking medium monsters.

Examples of Enhancement Crystals

Crystals which may be good for Warriors

Posted ImageWarding Hexage - Chance to create a protective shield when knocked-down. The protective shield appears as a faint red sphere surrounding the character and lets you ignore a certain amount of the enemy’s damage.
Posted ImageFleetfoot Hexage - Increases speed in combat.

Warriors tank by gaining the enemy's attention and dodging opponents with fast moves and faster attacks. Although skilled at evading incoming blows, warriors wear leather armor, which doesn’t mitigate damage as much as heavier armor. The crystals Warding Hexage and Fleetfoot Hexage both enhance this tanking style.

Although warriors frequently use defensive skills such as Evasive Roll and Death From Above, they also need good movement speed in combat in order to position themselves for every advantage possible. Fleetfoot Hexage crystals don’t offer quite as much speed enhancement as the Swift Hexage crystals. However, Swift Hexage only increases the warrior’s out-of-combat movement.

The Warding Hexage's ability to let a player ignore damage when their dodge skills aren’t available makes it a great choice for warriors. The warrior’s lower defenses make the leather-wearing tank more vulnerable to the enemy when knocked down. In that situation, the protective shield may protect the warrior from enemy attacks long enough to return to combat.

The shield absorbs a small amount of damage before dissipating.

Enhancement Crystals for Lancers

Posted ImageInspirational Rhomb - Chance to recover HP when you hit an enemy
Posted ImageVigorous Rhomb Continuously recover HP over time

Lancers hold enemy aggro with skills like Challenging Shout and defend against incoming attacks with a physical shield. The lancer’s heavy metal armor and well-positioned shield prevent the PC from taking too much damage. Lancers are less mobile than warriors, so they rely more on healing.

Because of the lancer's damage mitigation while blocking, recovering 100 HP is more effective for a lancer than on any other class. In combat, 100 HP on a lancer will last much longer than 100 HP on a mystic, priest, or sorcerer. Continuously regenerating HP while in combat helps the lancer to avoid a crisis of HP.

Enhancement Crystals for Slayers

Posted ImageSavage Cabochon - Increased attack power when attacking an enemy from behind
Posted ImageTriumphant Cabochon - Increases your attack power after being attacked from the rear

Slayers deal wide area attacks, fighting in melee range with the tanks. By standing toe-to-toe with the enemy, it’s easy for the slayer to slip around and get behind an enemy. In a group, slayers should find it easy to continuously position themselves for rear attacks. Savage Cabochons accentuate the slayer’s effectiveness when attacking from behind.

The chance of dealing critical hits already increases when attacking monsters from behind, and when combined with crystals that increase critical damage, the backstabbing slayer can consistently deal massive hits. Pairing up with crystals that activate upon landing criticals adds another layer to the slayer’s damage cake.

Posted Image
Shows the difference in damage between attacking the front and rear of the monster.

Enhancement Crystals for Berserkers

Posted ImageDefiant Hexage - Increased damage done when you have less than 50% HP
Posted ImagePersistent Hexage -Increased critical attack power when you have less than 50% HP

Berserkers have abilities which can substitute HP for MP for various combat effects. This intentional "lowering" of their HP can quickly move them into the range where Defiant and Persistent Hexage crystals are most effective.

Combining high damage attacks with the high defense of heavy armors, against most opponents the berserker can gain more benefit than other melee classes from this combo--almost to the point where they prefer not to be healed in combat!

Posted Image
The increased damage when at low health effects all attacks.

Enhancement Crystals for Archers

Posted ImageCruel Rhomb - Increases damage when attacking an enemy who is knocked down
Posted ImageVenomous Rhomb - When attacking a target which is knocked down, you can cause them to receive a poison effect.

Archers attack enemies near or far with a continuous stream of damage. They have several traps that let them slow or stun an enemy, making them susceptible to knock-down. So when an enemy is knocked down, these crystals can give the archer the chance to immediately capitalize on the situation and pile on extra damage.

The archer's fast attack speed means more hits connect while an enemy is down, and therefore a higher chance to critically hit an enemy during that time. Archers profit from that advantage more than other classes, and with the Venomous Rhomb crystal, gain a damage-over-time poison effect.

Posted Image
Attacking knocked down opponents with these stones can greatly increase damage.

Enhancement Crystals for Sorcerers

Posted ImageCunning Cabochon - Increases your maximum MP
Posted ImageGlistening Cabochon - When your attack is a critical hit, you recover MP

Sorcerers rely on MP more than any other class to deal their highly explosive damage. One strategy to deal with the constant consumption of MP is to use continuous MP regeneration. Another strategy useful to sorcerers is to increase their initial maximum MP to last them through the battle and gain MP back through items or skills like Mana Infusion when not it combat.

Long cast times of the sorcerer's powerhouse skills means that sorcerers usually see fewer critical hits in a set time than other classes, but by using the short-ranged skill Flame Pillar a sorcerer will see multiple hits to the enemy and more criticals. The Glistening Cabochon crystal paired with Flame Pillar offers the sorcerer another way to gain back precious MP.

Posted Image

Enhancement Crystals for Priests

Posted ImageInfused Hexage - Continuously recover MP over time
Posted ImageWarding Hexage - When hit by an attack, there is a chance you will generate a protective shield

The priest's offensive skills are relatively inexpensive in terms of MP. During combat, the priest won’t consume much MP until healing is required; but when healing is needed, it’s imperative to have a lot of MP at the ready. MP regeneration crystals like Infused Hexage keep the priest’s MP topped off.

Cloth armor doesn't offer a lot of protection in combat, and priests have fast self-heals for normal combat situations. But if a priest gets knocked down, they can’t cast and become very vulnerable. The protective shield of the Warding Hexage offers the priest a chance to survive the crisis.

Posted Image
The shield allows you to ignore a small amount of damage.

Enhancement Crystals for Mystics

Posted ImageInfused Hexage -Continuously recover MP over time
Posted ImageResolute Hexage - Reduces the damage you take when your HP is less than 50%

Mystics are probably the most versatile of the TERA classes. They can summon creatures to help them in combat, and channel auras for beneficial effects for themselves and party members. These skills either consume significant amounts of MP up front, or continuously deplete MP, so mystics must ensure they have MP at the ready. The Infused Hexage crystal provides a vital regeneration of MP both in and out of combat.

The cloth robes of the mystic don't mitigate damage well. With adequate MP available, mystics can easily heal themselves. However, if they take a lot of damage when their MP is low, they may find themselves facing a crisis. The Resolute Hexage crystal offers damage mitigation that one might normally experience wearing heavier armor.

Posted Image
Increasing your survival rate when you have low HP is very useful.

The news isn't new for any of the focus group testers out there, but for those who haven't had a chance to test the system, the article provides a good basic understanding of enhancement crystals! Thanks so much as always, Bygeorge!

Priest Column: Painting the Group Green

I consider myself a dedicated healer. MMO after MMO, I'm drawn to the various support classes that keep behind enemy lines, buffing, debuffing, and quietly saving the day by keeping my group's health bars the satisfying color of life: green. While not partied, I make sure I gather and craft all kinds of gear that will help further my quest to turn everyone's health bar a beautiful shade of green. If I am to pass by a poorly clothed melee ally, struggling with a red health bar and too many monsters to handle, I quickly dart in to ensure their health bar fades to green.

So naturally, I want to turn all the health bars in Arborea green! And I will do it.

However, given the unique nature of TERA, us healers will have to go about getting the job done in a much different way than we've ever experienced. In a game with a non-targeting system, how will we keep our party's health bars as green as possible? Well, the answer, which I've been able to act out in three separate tests of the game, is a fun one.

TERA's priests are equipped with an arsenal of abilities unlike any other game's priest. Our two bread and butter heals, a HoT and a heal, require us to be standing very close to the player we're trying to heal. Both heals are AoE and take the form of a glowing circle in front of the priest. In order to be healed, players must be within that circle when the heal is cast. The radius of these healing circles varies from heal to heal, so we certainly will have a lot to consider when making a split second decision about which heal is appropriate for any given situation.

The nature of healing in TERA also mandates that we spend some amount of our time in melee range. Yes, clothed in robes and with only a staff to protect ourselves, priests in TERA will have to be running in and out of melee range in order to paint our groups green. But no worries; not too far along in your journey as a priest, you will acquire a group shield skill. How exciting! Or at least, I think it is!

As we reach higher levels, priests gain an actual targeted heal that must be aimed at an ally using the game's aiming reticle at a high MP cost. When we will absolutely need to use this skill, however, is only speculation for now as the North American tests so far have only allowed testers to reach a maximum level of 25. Given difficult, high level content with very angry monsters, there may definitely be times we will need to heal a specific party member as quickly as possible.

While some may consider priests to be too boring and traditional to enjoy, I can already see that TERA will break that mold. Priests will have to be incredibly active to be successful, paying attention not only to our beloved green bars, but also the monster's actions and our group's positioning. The unique situation healers will face in TERA will provide lots for me to gush about ;D
