Hello, Mr. Blue here!

Last week we revealed how we changed the items in TERA and everyone's feedback really helped us out :) We've read all your suggestions and opinions and we think if you wait a bit longer we'll be able to repay you with a really polished game.

In addition, extra stats on items will be added at random but it won't just be attack speed increases. The extra stats will be able to be tailored to play-style (For example: increased critical strike, increased knockdown, or additional attack damage) and you will be able to pick and choose your favorite stats.

This week we've got news on how players can create unique play-styles based on their use of skills. It is hard to create situations for this type of uniqueness because most players get the same skills at the same levels, however the newly added "Glyph System" will help define each player's unique style. We also added racial abilities which should help players feel more unique.

Velika, the first major city, will have glyph vendors for each individual class.

The Basics of the Glyph System

The glyph system is made up of 300 different glyphs. Glyphs enhance certain skills. When a character reaches level 25 they will receive 10 glyph points that allow them to equip their first ever glyph. After that each level will grant the player 1 glyph point.

Once the player buys a glyph in one of the major cities, they can register that glyph to them and mix and match between different glyphs. How many points you have determines how many glyphs you can equip.

You can buy the glyphs at the glyph vendor, though some may have level requirements. To reset your current glyph setup, simply go back to the vendor and the vendor will reset the glyphs for you. This will make it so that you can easily switch your glyphs out for different PVP and PVE sets.

Added Skills for Roles & PVP
Since the 3rd CBT we've added about 100 different skills. Each class received a skill to further define their roles and also to benefit them in PVP. This week we will cover some of the added skills that help define each class's personality.

1. Warrior

Flurry of Iron Will (Active): This skill is a 3 combo attack that does more damage as your HP is lower. Since Warriors can evade enemy attacks with their emergency evasion skill, they can keep their low HP and also deal great damage. The usefulness of this skill depends on how confident you are at keeping your HP low during PvP.

Shadow Clone (Active): At the cost of half of your current HP, you can summon a Shadow Clone of yourself. Your Shadow Clone can aid in tanking as its attacks cause a high amount of threat. During that time the Warrior can switch their role to DPS to aid in defeating the enemy.

Posted Image
The Shadow Clone doesn't attack random mobs and it may be used when the warrior is in danger.

2. Lancer

Oath of Protection (Active): When this skill is used, allies within range of the skill transfer a certain percentage of their damage taken to the Lancer. With this skill the Lancer can become a tank not only in PVE but also in PVP.

Wave of Threat (Active): This skill is an AoE slow skill, that prevents enemies from running past the Lancer.

3. Slayer

Forwarding Sprint (Active): The Slayer can use this skill to quickly charge forward.

Nerve Slash (Active): Sends out a damaging wave to attack an enemy and also making their cooldowns longer. (?) This is a skill useful for PVP, attacking enemies hiding behind a Lancer to make them deal less damage with the increased cooldowns. (Think I've understood this correctly.)

4. Berserker

Killing Will (Active): The Berserker sends out an AOE debuff that slows enemies and applies a status ailment that causes evasion skills to not be able to be used. This skill is very effective to face off against a Warrior or Slayer, during that short moment they can't evade the Berserker can apply massive amount of damage in short time.

Furry (Active): In PvE, this skill will slightly increase knock-back chance. During PvP the chance to knock-back will be greatly increased. This skill also raises your resistance to knock-backs, meaning you can knock your enemies back while they can't do the same to you.

5. Sorcerer

Weaken Nerve (Active): This skill applies a very weak DoT that restricts your opponents from using basic attack skills. This skill will be useful for defeating melee enemies.

Mind Exhaust (Active): This skill drains an enemy's MP, making sorcerers stronger debuffers than before.

Posted Image
Weaken Nerve and Mind Exhaust are both Lock-on skills, so the chance of them missing are very low.

6. Archer

Roundhouse Kick (Active): The Archer can quickly kick the opponent in front of them twice, applying a short stun.

Containing Shot (Active): Containing shot is a debuff skill that applies an attack speed and movement speed decrease. This skill is designed for PvP but it can also be used to slow enemies that get close to the Archer.

7. Priest

Holy Ground (Active): This skill is an aura like buff. It increases defense against ranged attacks also resistance to status ailments.

Blessing of Recovery (Active): Unleashes a strong self-heal that helps you withstand most focus fires. Going after the Priest first in PVP can be a very big mistake due to this skill.

Posted Image

8. Mystic

Curse of Chaos (Active): Applying this curse to enemies will put them in fear. Monsters will flee in fear and if you are a player your WASD keys will be changed, not being able to move where you want. This is useful in both PVP and PVE.

Stone Binding (Active): This skill makes everyone move at their 1/10 of their normal speed.

Fury (Active): In PvE, this skill will slightly increase knock-back chance.

Take care!
Mr. Blue

Mailbag Feature: Pegasus Express

Hello, TERA Fans! Today, BrotherMagneto took to the official forums to introduce a new weekly feature.

Each week, the team will choose questions from the community to answer on a specific topic in a feature called "Pegasus Express". This week's topic is the slayer class.

Go submit your questions over here now and read the full announcement below!

Quote

This week we're introducing our next major weekly content stream: the Pegasus Express! Each week we’ll start a new thread in our forums asking community members to pitch us questions on a guided topic (typically something relating to news or announcements from the week). Then we’ll pick a few and answer them in a wider news article rather than deep in a forum thread. Each Pegasus Express mailbag article will answer three questions from the community, and you can look forward to a new article every Thursday. We’ll keep an archive of all questions and answers on our forum for easy reference, and each week we’ll make a new thread so questions are easily collated.

Of course we won’t be able to answer all questions—the details may not be finalized, we may be saving information for a bigger reveal later, or there may just be simply too many questions to address. So we promise to do the following:

- Make an honest and transparent effort to add as much information as possible to the conversation. We’re not going to shy away from hard questions!

- Prioritize popular questions (asked by multiple people) over one-offs. Our goal is to address larger concerns first.

- Select questions we can answer and for which we can provide interesting replies over questions we cannot yet address with any interesting details.

The first week’s Pegasus Express mailbag topic is…the slayer!

Zam posted an in-depth guide to the slayer, TERA’s greatsword-wielding, skill-chaining melee class. Want to know more? Ask us about the slayer in this week’s Pegasus Express mailbag thread!

Korean Open Beta News

Hello, TERA Fans! Today Locien brought a new This Is Game article to my attention. While we await a proper translation by Kalsteine, I ran it through google translate.

Here are what appear to be the highlights (remember, everything could be totally off):

  • TERA's open beta will begin after G-Star 2010. G-Star will be held from November 18th to 21st 2010.

  • The latest version of the game will be shown at G-Star. This will also be the version used in the open beta, so long as the public reaction to it is good.

  • NHN's largest G-Star booth will be for TERA.

  • If the test goes well, the game may see official service soon. It looks like the article gave the example of Aion releasing two weeks after its open beta.

This is the first we have heard of a test in Korea since CBT3 this March. This is also the most we have ever officially heard of any kind of launch date. Check back for a proper translation later, though!

TIG is usually a very reliable source, so what do you think, TERA Fans?

*Updated* [Translation] TERA’s OB will begin after G-Star

Update #1: Kalsteine's translation of the article can be found at the bottom of this page. My initial understanding was correct, however it's important to note that the article specifically says the game is still expected to launch in 2010 in Korea.

TERA, OBT to start right after G-Star.
NHN to start normal service straight after OBT.

Non-targetting MMORPG <TERA>'s OBT is to start before 2010's over.

NHN announced during their Q3 business report conference that Bluehole developed game TERA's OBT will begin before the end of 2010.

NHN also made clear during their Q2 business report conference that TERA's OBT and regular services will begin before the Q4 was over. Now with all this information, there is a high possibility that TERA's normal services will hit before 2010 comes to an end. NHN will also release TERA's newest version on November 18th in the upcoming event G-Star.

NHN's representitive Sang-Hyun Kim announced. "We have scheduled TERA's OBT around the year's end. First we will show TERA's latest version through G-star. We will also immediately start normal services right after OBT."

After the 3rd CBT of TERA early in the year TERA's been going through lots of polishing. The version of TERA that's shown at G-star will most likely be the OBT version of the game. NHN will be at G-star with a whopping 100 booths, and half of the booths will have TERA on them. This just shows how eager and focused they are on launching the game.

What it comes down to is, if the TERA we experience at G-star doesn't have major bugs probably at the end of G-star we will hear of TERA's OBT. If you look at the dates, TERA's OBT will most likely be around early December. The client will be going through some polishing once again around rest of November.

TERA will probably gain more popularity among the community during G-star and using that to start the OBT before the Winter Vacation will gain synergy. In addition, NHN does not plan keep TERA's OBT services long, if there aren't too many problems OBT will be a small taste of the normal services to come right after.

This is similar to NCSoft's plan in 2008 where Aion's OBT started on November 11th and after 2 weeks their normal services began.

Update #2: I just want everyone to keep in mind that until we get an official launch date from the Korean NHN site, the launch schedule speculated in this article should be treated as a rumor.

Update #1: Kalsteine's translation of the article can be found at the bottom of this post. My initial understanding was correct, however it's important to note that the article specifically says the game is still expected to launch in 2010 in Korea.
