New Official Character Creation Video!

Good afternoon, TERA Fans! A new, official character creation video reveals previously unplayable racial genders and face sliders!

Check out En Masse's release below!

Quote

We wanted to share a new video that Bluehole Studio has produced showing changes being made to the TERA engine based on feedback from the recent Korean Open Beta Test 3 and Western Focus Group Test 2. One of the key pieces of feedback we received was the desire for more character customization and this video shows one of the upcoming enhancements to TERA that allows players to customize the unique look of their character: more facial feature options and feature sliders to allow for custom modification.

(If the video doesn't work for you, click here to watch it on youtube!)

The video depicts the character creation of all of the races, including the notable female Aman, male High Elves and female Popori! Does this mean that the next Korean beta and FGT3 will feature all race/gender combinations O:?

Throughout the quick video, it appears that a few different facial sliders are being used to tweak the character's appearances. As the video is in Korean, I am not sure what the sliders are each specifically for, but you can clearly see that they affect the eyes, mouth and other prominent facial features.

I personally am really glad they've added options to help make each character look a little more unique! The feature doesn't look too extensive, but it does look like just enough. I am also glad that though the character creator is quite nice, there is clearly more to the game than character creation, as the focus has always been on TERA's next generation gameplay!

What do you think, TERA Fans?

New Lore From Massively.com: World Lore: Rough Lessons

Good afternoon, TERA Fans! Today, massively.com posted an exclusive piece of creative writing about the by we've been reading about, Konei, and a Castanic instructor. It's a very good piece of writing! You can find it at massively.com, or below. Enjoy!

"Rough Lessons"

By Stacey Janssen, Writer

As she leaned forward to show Konei the move again, the sun set Liana's skin to enticing shades of light and shadows. Konei's mind could focus on only one repetitive thought: So beautiful... Castanics are so beautiful...

"Got it?" Liana stared down at him contemptuously.

"Um. Yes?"

"Good, then I'm letting him out. One, two-"

"Wait!"

"-three!"

The cage opened and the sabretooth leapt toward Konei. Terror froze his knees and he stumbled backward. Scrambling to his feet, he leapt to one side and rolled out of the beast's path, grateful he'd paid attention when they covered dodging. He slashed wildly, but couldn't land a good blow. The creature sat back on its haunches and pawed at the ground. What does that pause mean again...?

He hesitated a moment too long, and in the next instant he lay in the dirt, his lungs compressed and two huge tusks hovering over him. This is how it ends, he thought. In training. Fantastic. He closed his eyes and waited for the pain.

The weight on his chest lifted. Gasping, he opened his eyes. Liana steered the creature back to its cage with her stick and turned to Konei, eyes aflame.

"Did you even hear a word I said? 'When it paws the ground, it's about to swipe you with its big pointy claws,' I said. Paws, ground, claws, dodge! Attack from behind! Honestly, I couldn't have spoken any more clearly."

Konei opened his mouth, then closed it again and stared at the grass. His face grew warm under her disapproval.

"Ugh! Child! You know what?" She reached for the cage door, and Konei tensed.

"Since you refuse to listen, you can figure out this guy's strategy all on your own." She grasped the bar. "If I have to pull this one off you, you fail. I can't teach those who won't learn."

Wait, Konei tried to call out. His wounds still bled and his muscles still ached, but the door swung open anyway, so he unsheathed his weapons. The cromos sprang from the cage, both heads growling. Konei dodged and tried to run around the creature, but it kept up. His swords slashed the air like branches stuck to his flailing arms. He thrust the twin blades forward with a jolting motion and felt them sink into flesh. When the cromos halted and raised both horrible heads, Konei thought for sure that he'd won. A smile crept to his lips, but then he remembered the sabretooth. It's the pause, he realized. Swords still at the ready, Konei dove to the side, but seconds too late. One head slammed into his stomach, knocking him to the ground. He couldn't breathe, but when he saw Liana shake her head and step toward him with her steering stick, he forced himself to his knees. The cromos turned and bounded toward him. With a grunt, he plunged a blade into either neck as it rushed him. He fell backward and the creature collapsed onto him.

Air. Need air. Liana entered his field of vision just as it started to darken and shoved the beast off him. He rolled away from her, sputtering and gasping. His face burned and he dreaded her disapproval.

"You forgot again."

"I know." His voice cracked and he cleared his throat, his face burning hotter.

"That's a good way to die."

Posted Image

Konei nodded. His hair fell into his eyes and he brushed it back. Every muscle screamed. The sabretooth wounds throbbed.

"What have you learned?"

"Watch for the pause."

"Most of the larger, solitary beasts attack that way. Critters that roam in groups, though, usually fight in groups-meaning different tactics. That's next on our agenda, so let's get moving, kid."

He raised his head, a lock of hair falling into his eyes. Moving? Is that a joke? I barely remember my name. "Liana, I don't really...I can't-"

"You're doing really well, Konei." Her voice was encouraging-a tone he hadn't heard before. "You can do this. Come on." She smiled, then walked on, not waiting to see if he followed.

Konei didn't know if it was the encouragement or the smile-or both-but as Liana walked away, he felt the strength come back into his legs and the energy flood back into his spirit. If Liana believed in him, he'd best start believing in himself.

He hauled himself to his feet and jogged to catch up.

World Lore: Welcome to Northern Shara

Good Afternoon, TERA Fans! Today, En Masse released lore concerning the northern portion of the TeraFans Wiki - SharaShara continent!

This marks the first addition to TERA's interactive world map. The rest of the lore concerning other sections found on the map will be released and published in the coming weeks.

Below you can see the Northern Shara lore article in its entirety. Enjoy!

Northern Shara is a land cleft by war, where the implacable Argons rose from the underworld to invade the surface world. Using immense, crawling drillers and terraforming machinery, the Argons aren’t trying to conquer Shara. Their exact purpose is unknown, but it’s clear they want to expunge all life and transform the land, not rule it.

Shara has its stalwart defenders, though. They’ve gathered at the Amani fortress-city of Kaiator, the largest city in Northern Shara. Kaiator has survived thirty years of incessant attacks from the Argons. Even as the Argons ruin the surrounding lands and mass armies at Kaiator’s steel walls, the city hasn’t fallen.

Yet.

Northern Shara is a vast battlefield dominated by a brutal war between the Argon invaders and the defenders of the Valkyon Federation. The continent’s largest city, Kaiator, is an oasis of safety and an engine of industry, its massive magma-fueled factories churning out arms and armor to aid the war effort. Within Kaiator’s walls, the forces of the Valkyon Federation plan counterattacks against the Argon menace in northern Shara, sending column after column of fresh troops northward to do battle against the creatures from the underworld.

When those armies march north of Kaiator, they see lands under active Argon terraforming. The invasion began with a great tear in the earth where the first swarms of Argons emerged—an area now known as the Black Cave. The Argons patrol there to this day, guarding the entrance to their mysterious underworld while sending out armies to darken more of Tera.

Further south are the massive terraforming machines, which brave soldiers from Kaiator attempt to sabotage or destroy. So far the machines crawl forward unabated, but they remain a prime target for Valkyon Federation forces. The only respite in Northern Shara is the arctic plain that surrounds Kaiator itself—and even it isn’t totally safe. Rumors abound that fierce wendigos ambush unwary travelers and sometimes entire patrols.

The great rift that marks the barrier between northern and southern Shara shelters a more temperate clime, where giant frond-trees can blot out the sky at times—and hide the mad cultists, hostile nature spirits, and native tribes that existed in this place long before the Valkyon Federation’s armies marched here to stop the Argon armies.

TERAHispano.com Interview + Curse Launches SC2 Map Hosting!

Good Afternoon, TERA Fans! Recently, TERAHispano.com had the chance to interview En Masse Entertainment COO Patrick Wyatt about security in TERA and TERA productor Sam Kim about TERA gameplay. It's a pretty great interview and you can find a portion of the interview below.

Check out the full interview here @ TERAHispano.com!

Quote

Concerning security on TERA, answered by En Masse Entertainment COO Patrick Wyatt:

Greetings from TeraHispano.com, Pat! First of all thanks a lot for your time and for answering our interview questions. How is everything at the moment in the TERA camp?

Thanks for the opportunity to talk to TeraHispano’s fans, Nestor. It has been busy at En Masse Entertainment over the last few months. When we opened the Seattle office in November last year there were only four of us, but we’ve grown dramatically since then--we have 32 people working at En Masse! Now that we’ve brought aboard so many talented people, we’re making preparations for the launch of TERA.

Our most recent effort was preparing for the second Focus Group Test. Unlike a beta test, where users are playing a mostly-complete game and providing feedback about hardware compatibility and server scalability, the Focus Group Test gave several hundred users the chance to play the game early enough in the development process that the dev team will be able to listen to their feedback and then make substantive changes to the game.

I´ve read a lot about your point of view about MMOs security. Let’s talk about this first. Gold farmers and game-fraudsters earn about 1-10 billon dollars annually. With TERA in the eyes of a lot of people (and growing) I think you should know TERA will be focused by these "cybercriminals". Are you conscious of this?

We’re very much aware of the problems caused by cybercriminals in other online games; given the enormous amount of money that they can generate by gold farming and stealing game accounts, then selling game gold for real-world money, it’s no surprise that they’re already looking into TERA. While their interest does validate the growing excitement for our game, we know that online crime is a critically important problem to solve, and that we have to do much more than other game publishers have done in the past. Players have already seen that simply pulling out the “ban-hammer”—as publishers have done for many other games—is an ineffective solution.

We have a lot of work to do to ensure that our game has a high-quality play environment free from chat-spam, account theft, purchase fraud, phishing, scamming, and all the other nasty behaviors that criminals use to make money. We don’t have these mechanisms in place yet because we’ve been focused on creating an excellent gameplay experience first. That said we know it is a critical area for us to innovate before we launch to ensure that gamers have a great experience playing TERA. Just so no one gets alarmed by that statement, we won’t be using GameGuard or its like.

Class Guide – Mystic

Good Afternoon, TERA Fans! Today we're happy to share with you one of our final class guides, the TeraFans Wiki - MysticMystic guide! Written by seasoned Mystic, Snoozle, you can find out more about the class below.

(DISCLAIMER: The developers at En Masse Entertainment have enabled TERA Fans to share this information from the FGT with our community. Keep in mind that any of the information found here is subject to change as the game continues to develop.)

Mystic

Quote

Mystics channel the primal powers of TERA. In addition to magical attacks and healing, mystics can drain their foes' very essence, using it to bolster their allies. They are the enigmatic casters, walking the fine line between the darkness and light.

The Elementalist class was recently revised to become the Mystic class and the new class has become the main buff/debuff support class. The Mystic can also support heal with a summoned orb that sits on the ground and can be consumed by other characters. Several orbs may be summoned (we only tried 5 at once for group support) and they will eventually disappear if not used.

Class Skills

Elemental Shot I

Elemental Shot is the basic single target attack of the Mystic class and is a starting skill. With upgrades at levels 4 and 8, it is a standard starting spell for attacking single mobs.

Mana Boost I

Mana Boost is a mana regeneration skill. It is very useful in order to keep mana up in order to keep playing without down time. Upon taking damage or casting another spell, the mana regeneration effect cancels. It also has an animation that looks pretty funny when used with the male Popori race.

Essence of Rejuvenation

Essence of Rejuvenation is the main Mystic healing skill. It appears as an orb on the ground that is clicked on by either yourself or other characters in order to heal themselves instantly. The orb looks rather like a glowing egg and during the FGT we referred to them as a nest of healing eggs. The skill is upgraded at levels 4 and 8 in order to help keep up with increasing health pools. The heals are a medium heal.

Curtain of Retribution

Curtain of Retribution is one of the nicest looking spells that Mystics have and is pictured second in the series of screenshots at the top of the guide. It's a cone-shaped damage spell that appears as a group of butterflies that fly out from the caster and hit groups of mobs. There are a variety of mobs that are aggro'd as a group and this is the main spell used to take them down in early levels. It is upgraded at levels 6 and 10.

Essence Leech : Imbibe I

Essence Leech is a very different type of spell. It's a situational aoe spell that is obtained at level 4 and is very helpful for group play. It can be interrupted if the Mystic gains aggro. The spell takes health points from targets within its area of effect and after several (on the third?) uses of the spell, it will return mana to the caster rather than taking health points away. It is upgraded at level 8.

Spirit of Bloodlust I

Spirit of Bloodlust is the first real party buff given to Mystics. It is somewhat hard to use sometimes as it only falls on party members within 8m. Enhancing attack power is very nice for all levels though.

High Level Skills

Please see the guide created by HolyAegis for more information on later levels of the Mystic class (Mystic Skills). The names of many of the skills have changed due to localization, but the skills still exist. Many of the class defining skills are learned after level 10 - offensive buffs are among the more important skills. The offensive buffs constantly consume mana.

Mystics also get a variety of healing and utility spells. Rejuvenating Shot is a heal-over-time that locks onto a target and shoots them with the heal. Mystics also are able to resurrect other players and teleport a party to their location. Flash Shot stuns a target for 3 seconds and Binding Shot decreases the movement speed of a target to 89% for 6 seconds. For additional utility, Mystics gain Purifying Shot to remove all harmful effects from a single target.

Class Guide – Archer

Good afternoon, TERA Fans! :3 Our fifth class guide is for all the Archers out there! Written by moderator Kvinna (1-12 skills) and podcaster Caelixian (High level skills), you're sure to learn a lot about the archer. Enjoy!

"Swift sharpshooters who strike from a distance."

Quote

Archers thin the ranks of the enemy with non-stop attacks. Deadly volleys and fast reactions make them every bit as dangerous as more heavily-armed combatants.

The archers are highly skilled marksmen able to thin the ranks of their enemies in battle. Firing volley after volley with deadly accuracy, a single archer can cause panic and discord in a battle. Although the archer's defense is weaker than others, the enemies that try to close in on them will find that the archers are highly mobile and rarely stationary.

Posted Image

Normal Shot

Normal Shot is the first skill an Archer is given to master. It is defaulted to the left-click button, but can be moved to any other slot. What's unique about this skill is that unlike every other class, the Archer is free to hold down their mouse button to continuously fire upon their enemy.

Multi Shot

Multi Shot is the first skill an Archer purchases from the trainer after reaching level two. Once again, this AoE skill is unique from other classes. While other classes are able to hit more enemies with their AoE attack, an Archer can only hit up to four. However, the Archer's Multi Shot hits for a lot more damage.

This is also the first skill an Archer receives that utilizes the "lock on" mechanic. After an Archer selects this skill, they hover their crosshair over four targets to lock on to them. The enemies do not need to be next to each other and the Archer doesn't have to fire until all four have been selected. Once they are, simply click the skill again to fire. One important thing to note is that this does require a bit of mana and it is taken from the Archer when the skill is clicked the first time. Keep moving and try not to get interrupted!

Focused Shot

Focused Shot is an amazing addition to an Archer's arsenal. The Archer simply holds down the button for however long they wish to charge the skill. Once the button is released, the Archer will fire the skill. The longer the skill is charged, the more damage it does!

Penetrating Shot

Penetrating Shot is another AoE skill for the Archer. It works similar to Focused Shot - you charge up the skill for a higher damage output - but instead of hitting only one target, this will hit multiple targets. Since this has the potential to hit more than one target, it does less damage to one target than Focused Shot.

Posted Image

High Level Skills

As the archer progresses through levels, a noticeable increase in damage output is quite clear. This is, in part, due to the fact that many of the skills earned early on are upgraded in subsequent levels, rendering them much more potent. Added to the archer's armory in the higher levels are several skills that no archer would ever want to do without.

Penetrating Shot, earned at level 12, is a charged shot that deals linear damage to multiple mobs. When lined up properly, this can hit numerous mobs, and has a high rate of knockback on reap mobs. Compared to a few other skills at your disposal, Penetrating shot uses significantly less mana, but is more difficult to pull off while being chased, and is not as efficient for initiating combat as Multi-shot or Focused shot. They key to using it right is putting some distance between yourself and the largest concentration of targets, then waiting for them to line up as they come after you. Just like all of the skills though, having damaged the mobs some first is the best way to make this skill useful, otherwise mobs will be left at 1 hp.

Soaring Attack, earned at level 14, is a handy knockdown-recovery skill. When in the knocked down state, this skill becomes enabled, and you may quickly do a 360 degree spin attack, which has a high chance to knock down or knock back (reap mobs) anything it hits. This takes a fair amount of your small mana pool, but is certainly worth the 2-3 seconds it would take to recover normally. Depending on your weapon and level, it does the damage of around 2 and a half normal shots. This skill is most useful, of course, for PVP.

Backstep, though not a damage dealing skill, is probably one of the most used skills available to an archer. As the name of the skill implies, the skill allows you to jump back about 5 meters, avoiding attacks, dodging, or just putting more vital distance between you and your foe. Used right, this skill can allow you to get behind a chasing adversary in PVP, to deal rear-attacks, and hopefully knock downs. It does take mana, and has a fairly long cool-down so it is not a skill that can simply be spammed. Binding it someplace with extreme accessibility, such as the center mouse button or other unused mouse button, is a must.

RUMOR: Blizzard’s Eyonix to join En Masse Studios?

Please note before reading: This article is based on a rumor and all content is merely speculation!

Posted Image

Good Afternoon, TERA Fans! Today a rumor has been circulating over on the MMO-Champion forums that ex-Blizzard employee, Eyonix, will be joining En Masse Entertainment to work on TERA. Eyonix officially announced his departure from Blizzard Entertainment on April 2nd in the following forum post:

Quote

For nearly six years, we've shared our thoughts with one and other, we've laughed, we've argued, and we've cried -- the crying part was just me wasn't it? Those times, I'm afraid must come to an end as I've made the decision to explore opportunities outside of Blizzard.

It has very honestly been a huge pleasure, and I thank you all for allowing 'Eyonix' to always remain a very fond memory as I move on.

Of course, as can be seen in this post, there is no real indication at all that Eyonix may be a new edition to the TERA team, aside from the underlined text. The actual rumor began with this post on MMO-Champion today:

Quote

Last week Eyonix announced that he left Blizzard Entertainment and this week we now know where he headed to: It's En Masse

For people who don't know En Masse Entertainment, here is a quick link: http://www.enmasse.com/aboutus

He will meet Dr. Jae-Heon Yang (former CTO of NCSoft), Patrick Wyatt (Creator of Starcraft and Warcraft, also GuildWars founder), Chris Lee (responsible for publishments of all Halo and Need for Speed franchises, also Aion) and Brian Knox (Producer of Aion). The En Masse team is currently working on the western version of Tera (The Exiled Realm of Arborea) Online. More information about the game can be found @ the official homepage http://www.tera-online.com

With all those guys behind this game, it really seems to have a chance against WoW.

As seen here, the original poster of this thread gives no source for where this information comes from, so it could be as true as Popori being the only race available in FGT2! Even so, this would be an interesting development and TERA Fans staff will be on the lookout for any credible source that can confirm or deny this allegation.

Posted Image

So, TERA Fans, how much do you believe this rumor? Would bringing someone like Eyonix onto the team change anything about the game? If nothing else, it'd certainly bring TERA some more, well-deserved attention and add to the already star-studded and experienced En Masse team, wouldn't it?
