[G*Star] Lancer Gameplay

This is the Lancer G*Star gameplay footage thread! Please PM me with any videos you may find!

  • Inven.co.kr -- Video of a female High Elf Lancer. In this video, the Lancer charges and grips her enemies. At about 1:45 in the video, a lion crest pops up in the upper right corner of the middle of the screen; this is a glyph activating! Also, watch the monsters-- they do some pretty nifty things like running off and throwing bombs.

  • GameMeca -- Interesting video of a male Aman Lancer riding to a temple sort of structure and attempting to kill some monsters with pretty high HP. Unfortunately, there's lag :(

[Official Korean Site] TERA’s Loading Screens

Update #2: Thanks to new Korean translator, Kalsteine all the text on the images has been translated! Check the translations out because they're full of lore :]

Update #1: Some of these screenshots were featured on Frogster's European forums as screenshots of the week today, along with the following description:

This week, the screenshots presented are somewhat special, since it’s a selection from TERA’s loading screens. As you can see from this series of images, co-operation is a must between the different races: some will find mutual understanding in learning, others by sharing a meal, or working together on the same mission.

So at least it's officially known they are loading screens! Pretty awesome :D

Hey, TERA Fans! Thanks to TERA Fans member Cori's tip, an update to the official Korean site has been pointed out to me :] Just recently, the Korean CM Lime seems to have begun a new contest for TERA's Korean fanbase.

From what Cori and I can tell from google translate, the contest features TERA's "hidden loading screens" (?) and the CM team is looking for funny captions to go along with the pictures. 20 winners will receive Starbucks giftcards.

Hopefully we will have a proper translation of this article soon, but until then, check out the awesome pictures below! I'll keep you updated on a possible translation!

Introducing Lead Writer David Noonan!

Good evening, TERA Fans! Tonight, TERA's lead writer in the west, David Noonan, was introduced to the community! In this very interesting read we learn a bit about how this talented writer views TERA. Expect to hear a lot from David Noonan as time goes on, especially here at TERA Fans!

Greetings, early fans of TERA!

First impressions are important, so I’ll share mine. Back in December, a long lunch with some old friends turned into a tour of the En Masse offices and a chance to play TERA for the first time.

Brian Knox sat me down and gave me a Baraka berserker. I ran over the bridge and into the forest, where I merrily started cutting down ghilliedhus with an immense axe. Good looking game, I thought. Nice color palette, and the detail work on the characters is fantastic.

Then I noticed two other things: the blinking sliver of red at the top of the screen (my remaining health—less than 50 hit points) and the fact that Brian was right behind me, chuckling. “Dave, there’s a reason you have that block ability,” he said. “You might want to use it when you see the ghilliedhu pull his arm back and get ready to punch.”

And that was my “Eureka!” moment with TERA. It’s a game where you actually have to watch the enemy, not just various health bars, cooldown timers, and messages from your raiding add-on. What a breath of fresh air!

A few days later, I became employee #10 at En Masse, tasked with “Westernizing” a not-yet-done game for gamers like me who want something different from an MMO.

Quick jargon lesson: Westernizing is two steps beyond translating and one step past localizing. The goal is to make the game an authentic experience for a Western gamer—with all that entails. Westernization means building in the right cultural and mythological touchstones. It means adhering to Western play patterns. And fundamentally, it means writing . . . millions of words of writing.

Westernization is also a balancing act. TERA is a dangerous place full of exotic creatures, and we want to retain that sense of wonder and strangeness. This isn’t a game with traditional goblins, trolls, and unicorns, after all. We aren’t changing the story in the Korean game so much as we’re adding to it. I’m in constant contact with my opposite numbers in Korea, and they’re walking with us every step of the way. (That’s good. I need people who can temper my crazier ideas.)

You’ll hear a lot from me as we continue our work Westernizing TERA. I’d like to leave you with two related thoughts in this initial message:

• One of the things we do is rename game elements: characters, places, skills, and so forth. So when you catch wind of something in the Korean version of the game, get excited . . . but don’t get too attached to the specific names. Our “game terminology” efforts are both art and science, and thus the terms remain in flux. Our writers have been inventing everything from Valkyon Federation military structures to Popori name syllabaries—an enormous task we’ve only just begun.

• Now that our writers have reached cruising altitude as a team, we’ll be filling you in on the specifics of the game, the lore, and everything else about the world of TERA. As my friends and family know, I can talk for hours about this stuff. I’m in the fortunate position of knowing which game elements we can reveal, which ones are still in flux, and which secrets are best discovered when you actually play the game. Keep checking tera-online.com; my writers love writing, and that’s where we’ll share what we’re doing with the world of TERA.

Until then . . . as the Amani say, “Walk tall, walk free!”

Have a nice evening!

True or False Quiz!

Posted Image

Earlier today, a new quiz appeared on the official Korean Site! Thanks to Meiellink and Locien, TERA Fans has the translation :]

Posted Image Read the following statements and separate which are true and which are false.

Posted Image

[Picture: True? False?]

Statements!

1. TERA has 6 different races and 8 different classes. In the game, you will be able to select all classes regardless of your race and every race but the Baraka will be able to be male or female. This makes it possible to choose from a total of 88 different class, race and gender combinations.

2. Since TERA has been designed with a non-targetting system all classes will see a crosshair on their screen by default.

The answers will be revealed on February second!

Character Creation Screenshots Video

Good afternoon, TERA Fans! I've made a little video compilation using screenshots of the race/class combinations found in the character creator! The screenshots are from Korean site Game Chosun and I used each race's theme music for background music.

The video shows the options in the second step of character creation, choosing a class once you've chosen a race. Keep in mind that all races will be able to be all classes and genders, with the exception of the genderless Baraka. In the screenshots, High Elves have less choices because all classes haven't been implemented for them yet.

Without further ado, I hope you enjoy the video, especially if you haven't seen this part of character creation before!

Be sure to watch it in the best quality possible! :] P.S. It looks better not embedded xD

Tera Online – FAQ Bluehole Studio now En Masse – Coming Soon FAQ

Q. What is TERA?

TERA stands for The Exiled Realm of Arborea and is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG). TERA is developed to bring you thrills never experienced before in traditional MMOs with its action-filled gameplay and riveting visuals.

You become part of the realm of Arborea, created by the Ancient Gods. You defend your race in a fantasy world where your creators, descendents of the Ancient Gods, have warred upon each other centuries ago.

Q. How does TERA differ from other MMORPGs?

TERA will set new standards in the industry with its next-generation graphics, ground-breaking gameplay, and its unique community system. TERA is visually stunning and the quality is of those never seen in previous MMO games. Check out our images and screenshots!

You will experience a new gameplay style with TERA. Unlike traditional MMOs, there is no “point and click” system, giving you more control of the character and providing more riveting action play. No longer do you click your mouse and doze off into the sunset waiting for your opponent to die. You will have full control over the attacks and the fate of your enemy. TERA is set in a world where you, the players, will impact the community. The players will dictate the flow of the economy. You will trade, buy/sell more frequently with fellow players and create a community unique to your world.

Q. How many characters and races in TERA and what are the main characters and classes?

TERA has 6 characters, 8 classes and the development team is working towards having all possible combinations available. Numerous customization options are available to create a truly unique character and class. You can specify a character from six choices: Aman, Castanics, Baraka, High Elves, Popori and Humans. You will also be able to choose a character class from 8 choices: Lancer, Warrior, Berserker, Sorcerer, Priest, Elementalist, Slayer and Archer.

Q. When will TERA be released in North America? Will TERA be launched globally?

The release date is scheduled for sometime in the year 2010. Currently TERA is planned to be available in multiple languages and localized to specific regions. Please continue to visit our site for further updates.

Q. When will the beta test begin?

We are currently undergoing Focus Group Testing. These members will be helping us focus on western feedback and ironing out many of the details before any beta test. Beta schedules will be announced in the future. Be sure to sign up for our monthly newsletter for the latest updates and news!

Q. What will be the payment model for TERA?

Just like other triple A titles, TERA, a next generation MMO, will be a subscription based model and will feature box products for sale in North America. Further details will be disclosed at a later time.

Q. What are the system requirements, internet connection needed for TERA?

We are still in the process of optimizing and fine-tuning the game. Our development team is working diligently to reach the highest graphic and action quality compatible to the majority of existing systems. Specific requirements will be updated shortly.

Q. Is the official trailer a cinematic creation?

The official trailer 1 available on our website is not a cinematic trailer. In fact, it is an actual gameplay footage. It consists of different camera angles capturing our developers playing the game and it has been edited into a trailer format. We wanted to visually capture the amazing quality of TERA as accurately as possible.

Q. Who is Bluehole Studio?

Bluehole Studio is an industry leader in game development, comprised of the most renowned game developers that brought you Lineage 2. Bluehole Studio was established in 2007 and has been developing TERA since then. Bluehole Interactive is our US-based office, spear-heading the business in North America. What we know about Tera onlne!

Bluehole Studio
Based in Seoul, South Korea, Bluehole Studio is the company behind TERA. The experienced development team is best known for having worked with NCSoft on their Lineage games. Dedicated to creating such a revolutionary game as TERA, the company appears to be aiming towards impressing its audience with compelling graphics, a unique battle system and chances to involve the community in the game’s economy and political system.

TERA
The word TERA is an acronym for “The Exiled Realm of Arborea”. The game has been in development for around three years and it runs on the Unreal Engine 3. Thus far, the game boasts a very unique combat system (which you can preview here), six races, eight classes (both of which can be previewed here), a promised political system, and next generation graphics. Though the exact release date has not been announced, the game is planned to be released in both Korea and North America sometime in 2010. There have been two closed BETA tests so far in Korea and one FGT (Focus Group Test) in the North America region.

Currently, from translations we know the tentative names of ten regions in the game, City of Witches, Vampire Hill, Palanuo Valley, Mist Island, Pirate Cave, Rebellion Plains, The Howling Cliff, Snake Island, Barbarian Valley, and Altar of Dakun. The maps found in game show that TERA will release with probably well over 20 unique regions.

Lore
From what we can piece together of lore, the story of TERA is one of adventure and war, all set on exotic terrain. Some of the playable races, like the Baraka and Popori appear to have lived fairly peacefully throughout Arborea’s history, while races like the savage Aman and hardy Castanics have never shied away from battle. Ever tying to improve on their civilizations, the High Elves and Humans have overcome hardship and work to remain vastly powerful.

Currently there are no factions in TERA, however, the promised political system could have a large impact on what lore we know.

This week’s most popular posts!

Good morning, TERA Fans! We recently hit 200 members, yay! Thanks for joining, everyone!

Today, I've decided to put together a list of the three most interesting and popular threads found here at TERA Fans over our first week! Discuss these topics here and have a great Sunday!

Posted Image

So to start 'er off, the first topic that I chose to feature is the "What Race Will Your Main be?" Poll! It was pretty popular reply-wise, with 50 posts. It's also always interesting to see which races players are initially drawn to! I wonder if these numbers will change after more people have gotten to test the game?

As of today, Baraka are the least popular race D; Why do you think that is? It's interesting that they're the only race that will be genderless on release and are also the least popular. Is there a coloration?

With 27% of the vote, Castanics are currently the most popular race, with High Elves a close second. For most gamers, this shouldn't be a surprise, given that they're the most stereotypically beautiful races.

I remember once I read a developer comment where they mentioned that no matter what they do, players will always pick the "pretty" race. Well, looks like they were right for now!

Posted Image

The "What We Know So Far" thread quickly became popular and full of speculation. Among the topics brought up in the 51 replies were suggestions about the game's release, questions about private shops, jumping and lore.

When it comes to a release date, the official TERA-Online site still says sometime in 2010, so there's no reason for us to lose hope on a release this year!

I'm sure the lore will be fleshed out more as things are translated and information is released overall and jumping is apparently in the works still.

What other things would you like to know about the game, but don't yet? I want to know who the guys to the right are Dx

Posted Image

This thread stirred up passion in some and aggravation in others! "The potential for a Sort of Hardcore PvE?" thread quickly became a debate about PvP v. PvE, which it wasn't meant to have! xD

So, I'll try once more! This time, put your biases for or against PvE away and just answer, could TERA revolutionize PvE? Given its unique combat system and monster design, could it make PvE difficult and interesting? If you don't normally like to PvE, would you give it a try in TERA?

Have a great rest of your weekend guys!
