Great road warrior companion![]()
Very fast and responsive laptop with expansive battery life. The 1366×768 screen is sharp and very bright too, with much crisper whites than the other 3 LCDs on my desktop. Solid build quality on this and whisper quiet, compared to my Acer Aspire 4530 14inch that this replaced. Total usable capacity on drive shows at 455GB out of the box. I’m not sure whether it’s the 4100 processor or Windows 7, but this machine screams compared to my prior Vista laptop with an Athlon X2 dual-core QL-60. Performance with Microsoft Office Beta 10 is also exceptional, with Microsoft Excel opening in milliseconds compared to seconds on the Acer. I’m a suit spending lots of time on planes, and not a gamer–so I can’t comment on how it performs in 3D graphics but that’s not my use case anymore (unfortunately). They keyboard is a bit cramped–but you quickly get used to it after a few days. And the trade-off for thin and light far outweighs having a much larger keyboard.
The biggest bonus is that my machine did not come with the usual bloatware that plagues most other new laptops, so the out-of-box experience was smooth and painless. For the price, I don’t think you can find a better deal: 4GB RAM, Win 7 64 bit, 6+ hour battery life and a half-terabyte hard drive for well under a grand. There may be smaller and faster laptops out there, but not for the money.
2nd Toshiba-Smaller and Mightier!![]()
I just received this laptop a week ago from Amazon. I have a Toshiba Satellite P205 I got in late 2007. It still is going strong BUT it is a beast..17″ and heavy. It was fine at first when my time was spent at my home office, but a bear to travel with.
I happened upon this one at a local office supply store and fell for it right away and after much research found that Amazon had the best build out for the best price! EVen better than Toshiba!
My thoughts at 1st were to keep my “beast” going as my home computer and just take this baby on the road..but I think that will be too crazy to keep everything sync’d up over sharing the wireless network.
I was able to quickly set this baby up! I figured out how to do the easy transfer over my wireless network and am almost fully set up on one computer. This computer is very fast and though I was used to a 17″ monitor, I have not really felt like I am missing that extra screen. The keyboard is cramped in comparison but I am getting used to it. I do find myself making more typing mistakes. I do find that the bar at the bottom does take a bit more effort to push down but I learned a trick the other day I never learned before. I never realized you could just tap on the mouse pad to go where you wanted to go! I also figured I would be using a mouse anyway. SO I got a logitech lap pad that has a pull out mouse pad that has made this easier to use witha mouse while in my lap!
I did the recommendations for changing the sound options so I didn’t have any initial issues with low sound as described in other reviews of similar models. I am downloading the driver update right now as and added measure
I do not miss the optical drive at this point. I almost considered the U models because it had the built in optical drive but that would have been a HUGE trade off in battery life! SO far I have gotten up to 6 hours of battery on this. I could have gone longer but I had to replug in when I was in the middle of doing something that would take longer than what was left. I am lucky to get just over 2 hours of life on “the beast”. I bought the Samsung optical drive recommended here when I bought the laptop and that worked great to load software into this. Is small and light enought to go with me on longer trips just in case. I hardly used the drive so I know I made theright choice to choose battery life over built in drive.
I was able to stash this baby in my purse yesterday, go to a client and sit in a marathon meeting for 6 hours without having it plugged in! Huge plus!
I am still getting used to Windows 7 quirks..but so far I am happy with this one. Always liked the toshibas I have owned or worked on in the past. Expecting to LOVE travelling with this one this year and putting the beast to rest! Great price and great little machine so far!
Perfect for my needs![]()
I wanted a light laptop that was faster and provided more options than a netbook. I’ve had this laptop for over two weeks now and already took it on a trip with me. I have read all the reviews of this laptop on Amazon and other sites as well as reviews of similar Toshiba Satellite laptops. I was prepared for some of the problems I have read about but experienced none. The low volume problem that many mentioned is easily fixed by going into the sound settings and making adjustments there. I had no problem using the keyboard or the mousepad. I don’t know why some others had complaints. The “fingerprint magnet” issue that is widely mentioned was not as bad as I had expected. So I am satisfied with my new laptop and find that it meets my needs.

Customer Reviews:
good all in one computer![]()
This computer was purchased for my parents to communicate with my brother stationed in Iraq. They use the web camera and use skype to talk with him from time to time. The computer itself does what they need in a casually used computer. Love the place saving design. Research, that I checked, seems to hold true with this computer. Has all the memory that they will ever need. Processing speed seems a little slow for my personal needs but for them it’s great!
Very slow PC![]()
I bought this to replace a 4 year old desktop PC. My disappointment is that it is slower than my old Dell right out of the box. You would think that with 4 gig memory it would be faster. This is probally because of the preloaded software. There are too many HP programs in the system.
Very Nice!![]()
Let us keep expectations realistic – the MS225 is a low-end desktop system and is priced accordingly. Given that constraint, it is a very nice system, and I would recommend it to others.
What sold me on this system was: a) the AMD CPU, which, while not a screamer, is dual-core and performs much better than the Intel Atom, the other CPU being shoved into low-end systems; b) the pedastal mount, which is much more elegant than other all-in-ones that rest the display on the desktop with a couple of stand-off spacers.
Oh yes, the pre-installed MS Windows OS was immediately dumped for Ubuntu 9.10, which works like a champ. Even the funky Atheros wireless chipset works out of the box.
The only thing I would change would be to increase the DPI of the display to have more pixels without changing the physical dimensions.

Features
Not bad, especially for the price - It’s not the fastest, due to (i) its notebook processor, (ii) its notebook hard drive, (iii) its notebook video chip, and (iv) the 32-bit Windows 7 version that can use only 3GB of its 4GB of RAM - All that being said, it’s fast enough for the average user. I’ve watched full HD movie files on it and the fan doesn’t even spin up. Can’t comment on 3D gaming though. - The speakers sound alright, especially once you turn on all of the SRS effects. Also there’s no noise when you use headphones, a nice change from my latop. - The mouse is too small for my hand, and my hands are not that large. The wireless keyboard tends to turn off (to save power I assume) and usually I have to hit a key to wake it up again before typing. It has no caps/num/scroll lock lights (they’re virtual, on the screen). Also, the keyboard is maybe half the width of the computer, contrary to what you see in the photo. - It doesn’t include a normal Windows re-installation DVD; rather it’s a recovery image that includes all of the installed BS. - The 22″ widescreen is very reflective but otherwise nice. It has an HDMI input and is full 1080 resolution so you could plug your xbox or bluray player in and use it as a monitor. - The 2.5″ hard drive makes little whining noises which are always audible since the rest of the machine is so quiet. Annoying. - Overall, despite its flaws, this is a versatile machine especially if you get it for the $690 after mail-in-rebate price. Exceeded My Expectation All this made the setup a breeze and not to mention if I ever want to move it to another location, it will be a piece of cake. No problem at all to start Windows 7 and to install several updates. Connecting to my home wireless network was also effortless. It runs very quiet too. I did some research on Sony all-in-one, but can’t seem to justify the price tag – double of a regular desktop. I am very happy that I found this Asus model. I paid about $100 more (after the rebate) than I would otherwise with desktop of equivalent configuration. But it is well worth it. The design, I agree, it’s not as pretty as the Sony, but much better looking than the HP Touch models. I have not noticed anything negative about this machine. It exceeded my expectation. Highly recommend it.

Customer Reviews: A nice netbook for the usual coffee shop net surfing. I found the Dell the most attractive package in early 2010 for the follwoing reasons: 1. comes with the new Atom 450 (should be a little more nergy efficient) 2. the 6-cell battery gives me more air time than the 3-cells batteries in so many other netbooks. 3. the keyboard is a pleasure to type on quickly. 4. the case is not only pretty but sturdy. No noticable flexing of any kind under pressure. 5. the screen is nice, colors vibrant. 6. touchpad is of a nice and usable size. I’ve been using the Mini now for a couple of days and I’m not disappointed. I use it for light web surfing, emails, and typing (the classic core apps of a netbook). In addition, I use it for streaming music under my Zune subscription. My expectations are met. Windows Starter only seems a bit of a bottleneck in terms of included (or lacking) features compared to Home or Professional. I couldn’t figure out how to back up the Mini via a mapped network drive and as it stands, it must be a missing (or blocked) feature due to Windows 7 Starter Edition. Upgrading seems the better choice if one really wants to use the Mini for sharing and streaming at home. Little powerhouse Great Netbook but…
