Movie Title: The Lost World The Lost World is available for streaming or downloading. |
Irwin Allen’s 1960 version of The Lost World may be shot in CinemaScope, but stylistically it fits accurate in with his 60s sci-fi TV shows (indeed, stock footage from the film found its plan into his Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea series, as did co-star David Hedison) . Originally intended to feature state-of-the-art stop-motion animation from Willis O. Brien, the special effects genius slow the groundbreaking 1925 version as well as King Kong, the ever-economical producer opted instead for the tried and trusted and, most principal of all, mighty cheaper technique of supergluing fins and horns on dependable lizards and having them double for dinosaurs despite looking like nothing so great as lizards with fins and horns superglued on them. However, even had he spent the extra time and money, this modernised version was never going to be the definitive one: ‘dinosaur’ action is fairly thin on the ground and the novel’s finale that sees a pterodactyl on the loose in London is unceremoniously dropped. Instead there’s a lot of wandering around the Fox ranch and backlot, cameo appearances from the unique poisonous giant plant left over from Slump to the Center of the Earth, a tribe of natives with a yen for human sacrifice, a fortune in diamonds and the obligatory erupting volcano finale, though it retains a definite nostalgic Saturday kids matinée appeal even if most of today’s kids wouldn’t sit smooth for it. Claude Rains gets to grandstand as Professor Challenger while Michael Rennie’s aristocratic enormous game hunter seems almost like a draw for George Lazenby’s grasp on James Bond, with Jill St. John tagging along for no salubrious reason other than Arthur Conan Doyle’s thoughtless failure to provide any female roles in the novel unique.

Fox’s modern Spot 1 NTSC DVD boasts a aesthetic 2.35:1 widescreen transfer, but the stereo tracks are reversed so that the left comes from the true speaker and vice versa. Along with fresh trailer, brief featurette, Movietone newsreel footage of a kids charity screening and a level-headed gallery that’s irritatingly locked so you can’t fast-forward or reverse but have to play at normal run for nine minutes (!), it also comes with the modern 1925 mute version (which was, coincidentally, the first ever in-flight movie) . Unfortunately it’s not the relatively recently restored 93-minute version that’s available separately but the 75-minute version preserved by George Eastman House. For many years the longest version available after multiple cuts for reissues as the film’s ownership changed hands several times over the decades, for the more casual viewer it’s collected a welcome addition and offers a decent tinted print.
Willis O. Brien’s special effects are calm surprisingly profitable and plot ahead of the 1960 version even if he was to perfect them further in King Kong (for which this film feels almost like a dress rehearsal at times), giving the film an record scale in the volcanic eruption and stampede sequences, while Wallace Beery is a perfect choice for Professor Challenger, embodying the gruff, belligerent nature of the character to a tee. There are changes to the unusual – not only is Bessie Like brought along on the expedition to search for her lost father (with none of the laughable relief chauvinism from Challenger found in the 1960 version) but the pterodactyl that terrifies the streets of London has been changed to a lumbering Brontosaurus, which is certainly a change for the better – but then Doyle’s book is rather light on residence to originate with. The dinosaurs aren’t as well integrated into the sage as you might hope – usually it’s cutaways to herds of dinosaurs in their natural habitat – and the racial stereotyping from Jules Cowles’ blackface routine as `Zambo’ is painfully embarrassing and horribly unfunny (sample dialogue on seeing campfire smoke from the plateau: “That means our folks is peaceful alive.” “It MAY mean dat some of those cannibules dat descend dat rock down on us yistiddy am cookin’ `em in dar stew-pot!”) . But it’s hard not to like a film with dialogue like “What are you thinking of, Paula – in this lost world of ours? ” or Challenger’s immortal “My brontosaurus has escaped! Withhold off the streets – until I recapture it!” and where our hero’s rival for his girl befriend home’s affections is called Percy Bumberry!

Although not advertised on the packaging, it also includes a surviving one-minute part of the unique trailer and seven-and-a-half minutes of stop-motion outtakes, one including an unplanned one-frame cameo by Willis O. Brien himself!
Although Lost World includes one of my approved long, lost actors, Michael Rennie, it’s no comparison to it’s contemporary, Streak to the Center of the Earth. In fact, it’s astonishing they were released in the same year. Waddle is so worthy more a classic, yet it seems more dated. Lost World is unsuitable, but it has a more current touch since Irwin Allen would dominate the special effects field for the next fifteen years. George Pal, on the other hand, though he had a few obliging productions in the Sixties, seems more at home in the Fifties. Lost World does have its moments, even working with a lower budget, but at least they wisely spent some of their dough on getting a satisfactory cast. Claude Rains is a appetizing curmudgeon, and as well-known, Michael Rennie is a guy I’d consume on any expedition. The lizards as dinosaurs always had a split do on me: They Behold vast and true, but they don’t peruse like dinosaurs. However, the fight between the monitor lizard and the caiman (or whatever) made an engaging match-up! Honest don’t stammer PETA. But overall, I would say the best special execute was Jill St. John’s bra.

Now and then, it can be a right pleasure to dip into the years and pull up an older movie for a night of “couch tatering.” Not that this is such an “stale” movie… but mature enough that the differences between today’s special attain dazzle and flash and 1969 are evident in pacing, dialogue, general style. Today’s movies sometimes are lost in technical fireworks. This movie pleases with its simple quality of superb actors who interact well with each other and stand on their possess acting strength without too many fireworks.
And tranquil, the director, James Goldstone, deserves kudos for his creativity and innovativeness throughout the movie. The opening scenes are modern for 1969, beginning with a close-up of a buttery yellow dandelion, consuming through clips of families and racing fans gathering together. Of brand are clips at the Indianapolis urge track – a scene of a misty morning at the track the day of the Indy 500, scenes of fans entering the park, run car drivers and mechanics in tense preparations, increasing adrenalin, burgeoning crowds. I have yet to befriend the Indy 500, but seeing these scenes certainly made me hope that soon enough I might.
My fellow “couch taterer” and I had arresting conversations offering the male/female viewpoint on the scene of infidelity that centers the site – the reasons leisurely the betrayal, if not excuses, the ramifications to all alive to, including the son played by Richard Thomas, the responsibilities befalling all, the likelihood of a reuniting at movie’s kill.

In short, when a movie catches your imagination, makes you want to visit the status and event portrayed, and gives food for concept and discussion at its waste, then this is a movie worth adding to a collection, whether one is a bustle fan or not.
This movie is often mentioned as a member of the large pantheon of classic hasten movies, and it does belong there but it is more of a bottom feeder compared to “Enormous Prix” and certainly “Le Mans”. It is not the quality of the bustle footage or the throughout titanic performances of Newman, Woodward, and a very junior Richard Thomas, impressive on his movie debut. It is more the script that is the quandary, and the movie lacks crucial time in the beginning to design the characters and their relationships. Robert Wagner is a former link in this movie since he never establishes himself as the friend and rival of the Newman character Frank Capua, and the whole delivery of his share in the affair with Capua’s wife is primitive. Where “Le Mans” does very powerful with miniature words, this movie sometimes fails to build the relationship drama in key scenes, yet is very touching at times.

The track drama on the other hand is captured flawlessly, and the viewer gets some very tantalizing impressions on how the Indy 500 were rush in the behind 60ies, unbiased before the hayday of the snakepit. With the upright level of expectation this is an appetizing movie, and the quality of the DVD leaves nothing to desire.

Movie Title: A Christmas Carol A Christmas Carol is available for streaming or downloading. |
I objective got my copy today, and effect it in after watching the Blu Ray of Forrest Gump. Trust me. You’ve never seen A Christmas Carol until you scrutinize this current Blu Ray. I was terrorized and beside myself at how well this current restoration turned out. The detail is unreal, especially for a film that has always looked so abominable. It’s not flawless mind you, with the ocassional sever and scratch, but overall this is a aesthetic transfer and worth every penny for an upgrade. The sound is quite nice as well. I buy the new mono to the 5.1 track. Very positive and disclose free.
The most essential Christmas film ever made. Certainly the truest and most emotionally stirring adaptation of Dickens’ classic to this day, and most certainly to near. How do I know this? Well, in the words of Miniature Tim, “I honest consider it”. The stale condition of the film and the fact that it was shot in sunless and white lend a distinct authenticity to it, as if it were actually filmed in the story’s time period. Alastair Sim was born to play Scrooge. Even some of the finest actors can’t (and won’t) ever near the level he position. He was the “model Scrooge”. Sim was as equally convincing as a heartless miser as he was a man enlightened, redeemed and reborn. Other gorgeous actors could play one or the other but not both, at least, not convincingly. Sim is also supported by a very strong cast and crew. This classic version has Heart; It has Spirit like no other; It has believability; It has purpose. Unbiased the discover of a abominable itsy-bitsy boy (Itsy-bitsy Tim) peering through a toy shop window and managing a smile even though he knows he’ll never have any of the toys he sees will be indelibly etched into your conscience. The music during that scene will stop with you for many seasons to arrive. Somebody did a commendable job restoring this care for. Even the standard DVD (also restored and included) looks and sounds far better than any prior home video release, but it’s tranquil not perfect. Nevertheless, spacious strides in its restoration were made and I highly recommend it. But as far as the memoir goes, glimpse it alone the first time, without interruption, and if you rep yourself touched and perhaps rubbing a walk from your gaze at the slay when you hear the words, “Can you forgive a pig-headed stale fool…”, ahhh, you’re there. Merry Christmas, “in keepin’ with the area”.

Movie Title: No Country for Old Men No Country for Old Men is available for streaming or downloading. |
Cormac McCarthy’s current NO COUNTRY FOR Broken-down MEN has been successfully transformed into a film in the skilled hands of Ethan and Joel Coen. The myth is intact, the characters are given the dialog so uniquely McCarthy’s invention, and the terror of the message of the book – that we have approach to a point in time when crime, especially random execute, surrounds our lives – is, if anything, even more pungent than on the pages of the book. It is an extraordinary, and a highly disturbing movie, and while this viewer is one of the few who does not gain it deserved the Oscar for Best Characterize, there is cramped doubt that it is a luminous section of cinema.

The chronicle is fairly simple: on the raw plains of Texas a slaughter of men and dogs engaged in a drug deal is discovered by a simple guy Llewelyn Moss (Josh Brolin) . Moss observes the mayhem, sees the drugs, finds the 2 million dollar payoff money, takes the money, and embarks on an rush, leaving his wife Carla (Kelly Macdonald) to rush the pursuit of a excited killer Chigurh (Javier Bardem) who in turn is being pursued by the local sheriff (Tommy Lee Jones) and a hired hitman (Woody Harrelson) . The satchel of money contains a tracking diagram and Chigurh has the instrument vital to follow the waddle the diagram leads. The remainder of the film is the pursuit both in Texas and in Mexico, accompanied by countless brutal murders of all sorts by the crazed Chigurh, until a surprise ending.
But the toughest fraction of this violent film is more in the discussion of shared philosophies between the sheriff and his passe cronies: they consider on the sunless situation of universal crime that is so different and more malevolent than in the ‘old days’. The conversations, in the proper dialog of these archaic men, bring our attention to some realities we would rather not confront, and those realities are even more disturbing than the repeated images of bloated bodies and senseless murders that believe the conceal. Jones, Brolin, and Bardem are indeed advantageous in their roles, but the miniature cameos of the townsfolk of Texas are petite gems of acting and direction. This is a difficult film to seek because of all of the violence, but the message is one we must mark. We may be allowing the creation of ‘no country for any men’. Grady Harp, March 08
Violent, unlit, animated and an off-humor tone that is like no other. `NO COUNTRY FOR Stale MEN’ is indeed a Coen Brothers masterpiece!

The film is possibly the most ambitious film from the Award winning filmmakers, Joel and Ethan Coen (“Fargo”, “The Expansive Lebowski”, “O Brother, Where Art Thou? “, “Raising Arizona”) based on the 2005 recent by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Cormac McCarthy. “NO COUNTRY FOR Ragged MEN” was nominated for eight Academy Awards and won four which include “Best Achievement in Directing”, “Best Motion Characterize of the Year”, “Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role” and “Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material Previously Produced or Published”.
“NO COUNTRY FOR Stale MEN” makes its re-appearance on Blu-ray with a recent audio track, five hours of bonus footage and a digital copy.
VIDEO & AUDIO:
“NO COUNTRY FOR Obsolete MEN” is featured in 1080p High Definition with an aspect ratio of (2:35:1) . One thing you will observe is how the colors of the rugged outdoors really pops. The earth tones and its vibrancy during the day, to the sad gloomy and blues during the night. I saw no major artifacting or high grain during the grievous light conditions.
Also, when you gaze the characters in High Definition, you perceive the wrinkles, the pores…very detailed describe quality. Even the people who were shot and killed, noble amount of detail in the bullet wounds and showcasing how distinguished detail the crew went into making determined the these wounds leer realistic. There is no denying that the characterize quality for “NO COUNTRY FOR Worn MEN” is fabulous and good up there with the top tier titles. The backgrounds of Southwest Texas, the multiple colors that showcase the vibrancy of the film, to the black scenes that prove no problems and of course the overall details that you unprejudiced never assume of, are seen quite clearly on this title.
Director of Photography Roger Deakins (“A Shapely Mind”, “O Brother, Where Art Thou? “, “The Substantial Lebowski”, “Fargo”, “The Shawshank Redemption”) continues to be one of the top DP’s in the industry and was definitey deserving of an Academy Award nomination for his awesome cinematography.
As for audio, this is where “NO COUNTRY FOR Aged MEN” takes a gargantuan step up to perfection. Buena Vista Home Entertainment made definite the novel soundtrack for this second version release utilized an English 5.1 DTS-HD (48 kHz/24-bit) track over the PCM version. And boy, does it originate a dissimilarity. If you view the gun shots as the bullets converse, the rifle shots, a dogs being shot, vehicles involving, those action scenes alone sound clearer and punchier than the previous PCM track. The dialogue is obvious and there is impartial a sense of more clearer sound than the PCM track. Quite frankly, this is the best audio treatment of the film and the last one was splendid but for this 2-Disc Collector’s Edition, audio is beneficial!
And again, the film was definitely deserving for its Academy Award nominations for its achievements in Sound and Sound Editing. The crew did a improbable job!
SPECIAL FEATURES:

Surprising especially when you win out that Kelly Macdonald (Carla Jean) is from Scotland and has a strong, thick accent but played the character of a girl with a Southern sing quite well!
* Working with the Coens – (8:07) The cast and crew of No Country for Faded Men talk about working with the legendary duo. It’s stout to hear the cast and crew talk about working with the brothers and talk about how they want a positive scene a sure method. Fun featurette that was included on the last Blu-ray.
* The Diary of A Country Sheriff – (6 min.) A peruse at the relationship between Javier Bardem’s Anton Chigurh and Josh Brolin’s Llewelyn Moss through the eyes of Sheriff Ed Tom Bell (Tommy Lee Jones) . The days of being a sheriff with no weapons are a thing of the past.

EASTER EGG: Not necessarily a major Easter Egg but on Press Time line, you can recall the coin which has the words “Call It Friend O” and the coin will randomly capture an interview.
JUDGMENT CALL:
“NO COUNTRY FOR Ancient MEN” is definitely not a film for the worn hearted. The film has its many layers but I deem that Javier Bardem’s capable portrayal of the psychopath Anton Chigurh is going to ruffle some feathers because of his overall behold, his demeanor and his eyes of the thrill of a end, you can’t abet but contemplate how crooked this character is and for obvious characters, who encounter Chigurh, you are at the edge of your seat as he wants to settle the fate if they live or die. It’s hooked and his means of killing and the barrage of violence is not going to beget the squeamish any happier.
This is possible the Coen Brothers darkest film. Granted “Fargo” was a black film but “NO COUNTRY FOR Weak MEN” is well-written, well-acted, well-filmed…it’s the Coen Brothers masterpiece extravaganza. Dim humor, violence galore but a well-told station and characters that you want to stare.
For me, the violence was excessive but it was needed. It was very critical to note Chigurh as this psychopath and the level of detail that went into showing those bloody scenes was well done by the crew.
As the Coen Brothers and Javier Bardem did a fabulous job, you also have to give the thumbs up to the other talent.
Josh Brolin being denied an Academy Award nomination was a bit of a shock. Where many people have not been fortunate to regain away from Chigurh, the character of Llewelyn Moss was a constant challenge but you actually felt yourself rooting for Moss for a microscopic while.
Tommy Lee Jones as Sheriff Bell was portrayed very well. A World War II Vet and proud Sheriff who is now having to deal with drug deals and mafia style killings, he’s not prepared to purchase on these type of people. This is not the same country he lived in before, it’s become hazardous and hence the title “NO COUNTRY FOR Customary MEN”.
I will have to say the radiant star was Kelly MacDonald as Carla Jean. At first, you judge that the woman is the token substantial at the beginning of the film but her final scenes perhaps is a scene that has left many people wondering what happened to her character. It’s because her character was able to do something that many of the other characters have not and thus, comes away being someone special. And I also have to say that I was petrified to accumulate out that Macdonald was Scottish and had this thick accent and to hear hear playing a woman with this Southern express was extraordinary. Well done!
Many people who purchased the first Blu-ray disc may be asking themselves, is this second collector’s edition worth it? Absolutely yes! The original DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack is objective wonderful. Combine that with already the perfect video, video and audio are impartial perfect. The special features also gets a 5 with five hours of interview footage and in depth knowledge late what the Coen Brothers wanted to attain in the film, to hear the talents (with the exception of Tommy Lee Jones) really present their passion towards this film and honest very honorable insight of the making of the film.
So, as great as I detest re-releases especially if they are not long after the previous was released, in this case, I have to say that the release of “NO COUNTRY FOR Traditional MEN” was warranted. For such an amazing and dazzling film, it deserved special treatment and now it does.
“NO COUNTRY FOR Customary MEN – 2-DISC COLLECTOR’S EDITION” receives an A+ and is highly recommended!

This three episode collection issued by Alpha Video contains the same three episodes that have been issued by various companies specializing in public domain material; in fact, if you already occupy any DVDs of the Chuck Connors Western “The Rifleman,” be determined to compare the episodes on your discs with those contained on Alpha’s so as to avoid possible duplication. The episodes include “Outlaw’s Inheritance,” “Day of the Hunter,” and “Mail Order Groom.” For casual fans of the series who would like to include a few episodes in their classic TV collection, this DVD will fit the bill nicely. But serious fans of “The Rifleman” will want to check out the various official DVD box sets issued by MPI for the best episode selection and best audio/visual quality.

Trivia Note: John Anderson guest stars in two of the episodes, “Day of the Hunter” and “Mail Order Groom.” These two episodes were originally broadcast unprejudiced a week apart!
ALTHOUGH THE FIRST DVD SENT TO ME WAS LOST OR SOMETHING, I WAS SENT ANOTHER AND ONLY BECAUSE I CALLED THEM. FOR SOME REASON THERE IS NO TRACKING OF THE PACKAGE Interested SO I WOULD Shriek ALL OF YOU TO Withhold A Profitable Explore ON THE EXPECTED DELIVERY DATE.
THE RIFLEMAN DVD ITSELF WAS Gigantic BUT ALL THREE EPISODES WERE DUDS – NO ACTION AT ALL – Unbiased DRAMA. I WOULD Protest ANYONE GETTING THIS OR ANY OTHER RIFLEMAN DVD TO Accomplish Clear THEY Sight THE EPISODES ON THE DVD OTHERWISE RISK THE CHANCE OF GETTING DUDS OR NON-ACTION EPISODES AND BEING DISAPPOINTED OVERALL.
